West Ham manager Graham Potter has given no assurances to new signing Daniel Cummings that he will feature in the first team next season.
The Celtic youngster is set to join the Hammers for a nominal fee, having run down his contract with the Glasgow giants. Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers had wanted Cummings to commit his future to his boyhood club, but the 19-year-old cited a lack of first-team opportunities as the reason for his departure.
Cummings was spotted at the London Stadium during West Ham’s Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest and attended the match as a guest of the club.
Claret & Hugh approached our top source at West Ham to ask if the young striker had been given assurances by Graham Potter that he would feature for the first team.
“No, he’s for the academy—he’s Mark Noble’s choice,” was the surprising response.
Presumably, sporting director Noble will have spoken to Potter about the signing and at least received some encouragement. Otherwise, West Ham could be left with a frustrated young player experiencing the very same lack of first-team action that forced him out of Celtic.
To good for the first team
Strange really how we seem to have assembled a small army of young Scottish and northern Irish players. Feels like it was something Noble was doing under the instruction of Moyes and has just carried it on. Let’s hope one or two of them come good.
Daniel Cummings obviously has faith in his ability to perform on the big stage. Really hope he is right and justifies that faith by forcing our management to play him up front with Niclas Fullkrug next season.
Mouthwatering times ahead. COYI
same old west ham, interested in enough players to to wet our appetites, and to field 10 teams at least.the last reliable striker we had was sir G.Hurst, and he started out as a defender.get rid of potter before it is too late .directors find out what has gone wrong in the dressing room, and with management. no use in building for tomorrow, it never comes. look how far back we have gone since our trophy win. as a group of players no passion, no pride , ipswich must be licking their lips, perhaps they should be paid performance related wages wake them up . old chicken run supporter and then a stand ticket holder
Let Mark Noble sort out the dressing room.
Typical Potter knows it all but appears to know NOTHING
I cant wait for him and who ever is left once he realises He is and never will be a favourite of all the supporters
He cant do what SNIDEn tried to do and rule the club with his own people
This typical of the club, can’t promise but must leave some opportunities for him or what’s the point him and I are thinking. We trying to create a young team aren’t we? Same goes for Scarles need to see more of him too!
Don’t need ‘one for the future players’ we need players for now. Might need him once we’re relegated next season.
There is truth in this.
The Geritol squad couldn’t even put on a show for the last home game. The reason there were so few fans remaining after the whistle was… there are so few real fans.
No, we need both. How myopic would it be to not plan for the future? All the top sides fill their academies with the best young talent available while still buying top talent for the here and now. We need to wake up.
Should be ready to play by 2035 🤣, this club has become laughing stock and are seen as an easy touch by everyone, no ground , terrible self serving owners, clueless manager, we are a club in decline, the only way is down.60 years and I’ve had enough!
All teams pick up young talent to develop and improve their reserve team. Liverpool, City and Chelsea have done this very well recently, and it provides massive revenue for PSR. Why is this such a shock to some people? If he develops well in a decent reserve team then we can ship him out to the Championship for a season, and then we see if we have an asset or not. We should be doing this with 5-10 youngsters per season. We can’t put players into our match day squad with no idea of their quality. Guilherme is something of an exception because of the fee involved, and I’m convinced he will come good, just needs a bit more time.
I certainly wouldn’t expect this lad to come in and impact the first team straight away. He’s done nothing in his fledgling career to suggest he’s ready for the rigors of Premier League football.
He has scored plenty of goals at youth levels so further development in the academy will bring him on in leaps and bounds. In a year or two he will hopefully be ready to force his way into the first team squad.
One for the future, for sure.
F****** shambles.
What is wrong with the people who are running this club. We are not interested in future potential
There are massive issues that need to be addressed now
Not when potential matures this is rubbish.get rid of this dross.send for hurst brooking and bonds not to manage but give advice and plot a path for everyone to follow.those that don’t buy into it get them out.we have lost our way.how sad
I just don’t trust Potter. He strikes me as inconsistent .
Another potential Guilherme being wasted on the sidelines but without the huge price tag?
Exactly.
Potter making promises which he can’t keep and dangling carrots.
If he can’t or won’t acknowledge immediate problems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.
Appears to be sufficient academy players queuing to get into first team.
Is there any need for Cummings’s?
