West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá is not pushing for a move to Brazilian club Flamengo, Claret & Hugh have learnt this morning.
Yesterday, reports emerged claiming Paquetá would like to return to his homeland if found guilty of the ongoing betting charges.
The verdict from the FA hearing is expected imminently, and the 27-year-old will either be cleared to continue his career or face a potential lifetime ban. The two-year investigation has clearly taken its toll, and as a result, it was rumoured that Paquetá was eyeing a return to Brazil—specifically to Flamengo.
However, a source close to the player informed us early this morning that the Paq-man has put no such pressure on West Ham.
“I don’t know where this stuff comes from,” said the source.
“Flamengo were interested a year ago, but Lucas would prefer to play Champions League football.”
That statement pretty much draws a line under the speculation. There may well be interest from Brazil, but it’s been made clear that Paquetá has not instructed West Ham to engineer a move back home.
It has also been made clear that the Hammers record signing is just looking for a fresh start after a very tough period. “He’s felt incredible support from West Ham and loves the fans”.

If found not guilty, surely both West Ham and Lucas have a case for sueing the FA for tens of millions of pounds. Could that be the reason why the FA are prevaricating over making a decision?
Can’t see city still be interested to be honest. He’s not the same player
Makes sense Gonzo. If Paqueta is exonerated West Ham will have a valuable asset, and top clubs will surely be interested. He’s 27 and a current Brazil international with 55 caps. So why all the talk of him retreating to Flamengo at the height of his career? Seems very unlikely.
