West Ham shareholder Daniel Kretinsky is said to be unimpressed with some of the names put forward as potential replacements for manager Graham Potter.

As Claret & Hugh revealed last week, the Czech billionaire is heavily involved in the final decision-making process over who should be the next Hammers boss.

It seems nobody at board level is confident in Potter’s ability to turn things around at the London Stadium. His stay of execution looks more about buying time to appoint a replacement than giving him a genuine chance to steady the ship.

Of course, a win against Everton on Monday could change the picture, but as things stand, West Ham are already bracing for defeat against both the Toffees and Arsenal. It’s a sorry state of affairs that the owners appear to lack ambition heading into such crucial fixtures, given the club’s tradition and heritage.

Confidence in Graham Potter has run out

Kretinsky unimpressed with West Ham options

Our understanding is that the names of Scott Parker, Gary O’Neil, and Slaven Bilic were forwarded to Kretinsky, but he was unimpressed. As a result, none are likely to be appointed, with all shareholders increasingly concerned about the looming threat of relegation.

Nuno Espirito Santo remains the most likely candidate, but Marco Silva is understood to be the preferred choice. However, with a buyout clause of between £8m–£10m at Fulham, there is little appetite from David Sullivan and Karren Brady to pay the fee.

Without a shareholder cash injection, it looks as though West Ham may once again miss out on their top target in an effort to save money – a short-term saving that could prove very costly in the long run.

Leaving Silva and Nuno out of the equation for the moment, I’d be interested on your thoughts on the three rejected by Kretinsky.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

None of these three would be capable of rescuing our team from impending relegation disaster.
Our survival doesn’t just depend on the appointment of a strong competent manager, it will also take a total change in the philosophy of our board (unlikely) or preferably a full takeover by a third party financially capable of and more importantly TOTALLY dedicated to a successful future for our club.

  • Timbo says:

I’d say Parker has done fairly well at Burnley but has not yet the pedigree we are after. Bilic short term would be ok but couldn’t understand why O’Neill even interesting us. I’d be happy enough with Nuno, v good at Wolves & Forest & keeps calm under pressure. Yes it didn’t work at Spurs but you would say the same for Silva at Everton. Palace losing alot of their best players, could Glasner be tempted, doubt it be he’d be ideal

  • Chris Morgan says:

    The Thee Candidates, very religious………

  • D says:

Gary o Neil without a doubt, he gave his all for West Ham every time he was on the pitch, he was the kind of player I like, industrious like Bowen, he got stuck in. I’m sure he would introduce a great work ethic. Scott Parker was the same kind of character but he left us for Tottenham, I can’t forget that, last player to do that since Kudus the Judus. I love Bilic the character but think he’s had his day, he got lucky with Dmitri Payet but after that he was taking us toward relegation.

  • Mark Jones says:

None of them are really good enough unless we get relegated. As usual it will be a cheapo signing for our next manager and my gut feeling is that we are still heading for the championship.
We would need a much better quality manager to have any real chance of long term improvement, and we all know that sully has long pockets and short arms.

  • Kenny irons says:

All three are not up to scratch – Kretinsky obviously has football nous – we’ve had enough of second rate managers, pay Fulham out and get Silva. Sullivan and Brady need to step aside from football matters now or they will get this club relegated.
Sullivan quite happy to sign off on crap players for £30 / 40m but not a good manager for £8m.
Fans are not going to accept this rubbish from Sullivan and Brady, anymore.

  • Al Leeder says:

You need a 4th “None of the above” choice

  • Ray says:

No to all three and the others currently being bandied around (which seems to be most of the free world). The board needs some outside help and time to find another Klopp, Guardiola, Slot, Glasner, Hurzeler or Iraola. If I was Silva, I would stay put. It is interesting (I think) to note that the only current British born Premier League manager worth considering is Eddie Howe and even he would not be my choice even if he was available.

  • John says:

    None …
    Desperado
    Getting a manager of Wish
I wanna see ambition at some point

  • e.ralph says:

Thank God for Kretinsky I say.
At least someone has a clue.
Those 3 names are WRONG WRONG WRONG for many and varied reasons.

  • Mark Boots says:

None of them, O’Neil and Parker continually fight relegation and Bilic is a one season wonder. We need more ambition in hiring managers.

  • John Ayris says:

Those three… Nope. We’re never ever going to spend 8 to 10 million quid on buying a manager out of a contract so that ones totally unrealistic.

Leaves the best of the realistic as Nuno whatever his style of play is. Unless anyone can think of a better unattached manager, I’m not able to.

  • AM says:

not too sure on O’Neil maybe if we were in a better place
    but not Parker
Bilic short term has to be better than Potter
There again ANYONE is better than the Flake

  • Syd Puddefoot says:

What about Di Canio as part of a team?

  • Jimbo says:

You can’t run a poll like this without the option of “none of the above”

  • Jason Emmerson says:

    Craig Bellamy

  • Sue says:

Of the 3 Parker but want Nuno 100%
    He will take us forward
He was treated very badly by the owner of Forest and no one takes out a grievance with someone in front of the tv camera’s
That was very hard to watch as a football fan to see such disrespect from the owner
He did not deserve that and I hope we get him and I am sure we will cherish him

  • SamHam says:

Hopefully, he pushes for Terzic and has had enough of Brady and Sullivan too.

  • James says:

I wouldn’t choose any of them. Parker, Bilic and O’Neil all lack the quality required to lift us out of the mess we’re in.

  • Adrian phillips says:

Would Marco silva consider WHU even if the buy out clause was met? With the current Board -WHU unlikely to be of interest to managers under contract with better run, better performing and better funded clubs.

  • Dave says:

At least Kretinsky has his head screwed on. Bilic has been a failure anywhere he’s gone at club level and Parker or O’Neil will take us no further than we are already, if not worse. Mind you, I ain’t too keen on the idea of Nuno or DaSilver either. Get Big Sam in for a short term emergency season and take a SERIOUS look at candidates who can take us forward next summer, preferably with new owners.

  • Mike says:

Gonzo Your choices need an update – Add ‘none of these’. Kretinsky is bang on the mark None of them meet the bill. And Sullivan/Brady’s position on managerial appointments is surely foolhardy (I chose not to use stronger language) – they don’t pay to get the right candidate because they have have buy out clauses (didn’;t seem to stop them with MacCaulay?) and then having appointed a poor choice (Potter being the latest iteration) they sack them paying all the compensation due It seems to cost them significantly more – not least because of the chopping and changing, the loss of the recruitment process lists etc (consistency etc) The pair of them – Sullivan and Brady – are completely out of their depth. 15 years of them at the helm and look at the mess we are in…….

  • Pstants3 says:

None of them for me , Nuno or Silva would be my pick , but we need someone who’s going to bring the youth on before the likes of Fearon, Marshall and Potts decide to jump ship ⚒️

  • Steve1 says:

    Yep, Kretinsky is spot on.

Pass on all three…… and whilst on the subject, I would add Nuno to the reject list as well. His appointment would just see a return to the Moyes constant ‘results vs style’ bickering.

  • John Lattimore says:

    None of the above

  • Hammeroo says:

Unless Nuno’s wage demands and his preferred transfer agent prohibits Sullivan from proceeding with an appointment then I would say it simply has to be Nuno for numero uno. Some may not like his style of play but he has shown quite clearly that he can get clubs out of the relegation zone and higher up the league. As we know, he did a remarkable job with Forest and got them into Europe. And I can’t recall seeing Forest as a boring watch at all. Also he might be able to find us some unpolished gems amongst the Portuguese league, as he did for Wolves.

  • Mick Bering says:

Quite right to common sence at last GOT TO BE NENO OR SILVA

    • Matt says:

      I’m with you mate!

These 2 are the only ones that are credible. The rest are uninspired and not fit for purpose.

Let’s hope we get the most important signing (manager) right for a change instead of no fee attached dead wood like Callum Wilson!

  • Spindrift says:

Changing the manager alone isn’t the solution.

There needs to be a culture shift.

This is evidenced by the consistent underperformance over many years and the glaring gaps in the squad not filled year after year, even though significant money has been spent. It’s all very well the board pointing to £450m being spent and a new 60k stadium, but the question they should be asking themselves is why with all that investment we’ve only managed a brief stint of modest success.

    • Taffyhammer says:

You are so right, Spindrift. We need to stop following fashion as one of the wannabes and establish our own identity showing the world our New West Ham Way.

Embark on this road and in a few years the pack will all be following us. All wanting to be playing like West Ham United.

  • Simon says:

Certainly, there are lots of extremely important factors making up the criteria in choosing the next WH manager. As if these were regarded by the WH hierarchy before.
One of which is … can the candidate take this huge club into a bright future, understanding all the requirements of the modern game.
And as much as I like the discarded names – them being former Hammers themselves, understanding the WH way is not sufficient. Sadly, with time they become dinosaurs with no up to date understanding of the modern game, or genius abilities to lead, direct and take the club upward.
May God help this board to finally make right decisions.
Come on you irons – God bless West Ham.

  • Morty says:

I’m with Kretinsky on this, none of them are a good choice

    • Matt says:

      100% agree!

Those 3 are not the answer and extremely weak choices.

Kretinsky seems the only one on the board who has any sense. I believe it was him that wanted a Sporting Director for recruitment.

Shame we can’t lure Monchi after his Villa exit. Probably out of our reach due to how far we’ve regressed.

If he hadn’t wiped out our debt and vetoed the managers Sullivan & Brady prefer we’d be in an extremely dire scenario!

  • M B says:

He is absolutely right to veto all three. Bilic had an opportunity with some initial success, but ultimately wasn’t up to the job. Parker has proved he is good at getting teams out of the Championship and also teams relegated from the Premier League and O’Neill’s track record is very poor. The appointment of any of these three would all but guarantee relegation. I’m not a fan of Nunes. I don’t like his playing style, but the issue is that we won’t pay compensation, nor do I believe we can attract any better managers, so we should offer him the job before he goes elsewhere.

    • Selwyn James says:

I like Potter as a person but sadly he is completely out of his depth, he would be okay in the championship, his team choice completely baffles me, to play the scum without a recognised striker is ludicrous. We should at least give the kids a try, we’ve got some really good youngsters waiting in the wings, most of the teams in the Prem use them. We being West Ham leave it to late and they move on. Come on Sullivan and the rest of you cronies do something positive, we the supporters who spend our hard earned money deserve a least that.

  • David says:

None of them are good enough, simple as that.
