West Ham still retain some hope that midfielder Guido RodrĂguez can be offloaded within the next week.
The 31-year-old is one of the Hammersâ highest earners, and the club are keen to move the Argentine World Cup winner off the wage bill.
RodrĂguez came close to leaving the London Stadium last week, with a deal arranged for him to move to Saudi Arabia. Claret & Hugh were briefed by a transfer source who had been involved as an intermediary to help find a club for the player.
âThere was a deal on the table from the Saudi Pro League that was bigger than his West Ham wage. His agent rejected it. They think they can match the deal in Mexico, but nobody will pay that sort of money. Crazy.â
Transfer deadline is ticking
As of two days ago, there was still an offer on the table for RodrĂguez to move to the Middle East, but he appears in no hurry to leave West Ham. Manager Graham Potter has sanctioned the sale of Rodriguez but has continued to use him in pre-season and at the start of the Premier League season.
The reality is that the Hammers massively overpaid the midfielder, and now his preferred destinationâLa Ligaâsimply cannot afford his wages.
That said, the Saudi transfer window remains open until Wednesday, and Mexicoâs Liga MX can still buy players until Friday.
