The challenge of the summer rebuild is huge – with reports of ten, twelve, fourteen or more squad players departing, West Ham have a major challenge on their hands. Wit the club having decided to proceed without a technical director / director of football figure, the negotiations are going to be testing in the extreme.
News that the club is increasing their scouting operation is welcome but of course it doesn’t do anything to help the immediate challenge of this summer’s window.
Our sources inside the club have confirmed to Claret and Hugh the welcome news that one of Tim Steidten’s backroom recruits to the club last year has remained at West Ham and is on hand to assist this summer: Max Hahn joined the club in 2024 as the club’s then -new “Head of Technical Recruitment and Analysis“.

Former Werder Bremen ‘scouting and analysis co-ordinator’ Max Hahn
Another stats and recruitment backroom guru, Hahn was lured from previous club Werder Bremen where he was scouting and analysis coordinator. Quite how Hahn fits into the recruitment team alongside Kyle Macaulay isn’t yet clear but having his continued expertise on hand will only assist in the quest to bring in new players this summer: Hammers fans will surely hope that Hahn can be the secret weapon to help the club go after up-and-coming talent across Europe rather than simply repeating their bad old ways of overpaying for over the hill players at the end of their careers.
It is no doubt hoped that Hahn will also help Graham Potter keep tabs on the prospects – the ‘pearls’ which Tim Steidten had reportedly spent so much time and so many trips in the executive jet identifying last year.
Worked out well so far…😱😱😱
If Brady and Sullivan are Westham’s dynamic duo for negotiations then the club has double trouble . There’s no way that even 8 new signings of quality can be made with Westham’s obsolete set up . Westham will be dredging Salthouse has beens to make up the numbers .
🤣🤣 i thought this was a joke post at the beginning ..the famous dof …..let’s see how late we get our players in and how close to bottom of the barrel players we get
Just worried that they will leave all their signings to the last minute as usual and miss out.. Also, nice to see two ex players committed to the cause.
Just don’t allow Sullivan to have anything to do with it…
Challenging? It all depends whether you see Steidten’s time with the club as successful and the jury is very much out on that. Has the money he spent improved the team? Overall as a group has West Ham made money on the purchases (Kudus probably, but any others?). Other clubs that we say we want to emulate seem to do fine ‘pearl diving’ without the need for a DOF having pictures taken in executive jets. And how did Steidten get players like Kudus to join us? By telling them we could be their shop window in the Premiership for a couple of years before the ‘big’ move elsewhere. That provided we could make money we wouldn’t stand in their way when they wanted to go. That’s less of a DOF and more of a footballing pimp.
