Tottenham Hotspur will complete the signing of Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United today, subject to a medical, in a deal worth £54.5 million to be paid over 36 months. The transfer marks a small profit for the Hammers, who signed Kudus from Ajax two years ago.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder impressed during his first season at the London Stadium, showcasing flair, versatility, and a knack for scoring crucial goals—yet struggled last season. However, his departure has sparked frustration among West Ham supporters, many of whom saw Kudus as a cornerstone for the club’s future.

West Ham claim the player submitted a transfer request and made it clear that he only wanted to join Tottenham once it became apparent that Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal would not be bidding.

A London Stadium spokesman confirmed to Claret & Hugh, addressing the backlash:
“We know the fans are unhappy, but how many fans, if they ran West Ham United and had £54.5m to spend, would spend it buying Mohammed Kudus? Hopefully, the money is used wisely to improve the team.”

The same source stated yesterday to C&H that “All money will be used to bring in new players.”

The pressure now shifts to the West Ham board to reinvest the funds effectively and strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.

Whilst I hate the fact he’s gone to spurs, let’s be fair. He was by no means our best player, nobody else wanted him and he didn’t want to stay.Positive spin…we’ve just mugged off spurs….its hard, but keep the faith…

  • Bennyboy baker says:

Selling kudus is a major step backwards kudus is the type of player that we should be doing all we can to keep hold of to add insult to injury he gets sold to spurs of all teams having set the deal we should be getting players in asap that’s if the money is made available for transfers in and hopefully some out but if things don’t start happening soon we won’t have enough players to be able to field a team

  • Hammer says:

Torbido has to be payed for out of the kudu’s money there saying now. Looking like relegation with 8 senior players 😮‍💨

  • D says:

Would I spend £54.5?million on Kudus? Absolutely not. BUT I wouldn’t in a million years sell him to Spurs either.

  • Bob says:

Is anyone furious about this ?
Bloke stunk the place out all last season.
Can’t pass, can’t play in the centre, left or up front. Stop the man from turning and he’s very restricted. £55 m is pretty good for a player that is unable to do some of the basics well.
Miserable bench warmer for Bowen, who’s the real deal.

  • Saul says:

I’d put a lot of that money just made on Harvey Elliott, a much better player and available for a lot less.

Those throwing their toys out of the pram at this sale just need another target to aim their Sullivan hatred at. We made a big profit (thanks Tim, another solid purchase from the oft chastised former Director) on a player who didn’t want to be with us. Good skills, I say. And who in their right mind would want to go to Spurs? They don’t even have a shopping centre next door………

  • Devs delight says:

The problem is that all premier league teams with ambition, dont sell their best players they build a team around them! West ham should’ve seized the moment once they had won the conference league! Instead they sell rice, and waste the money on poor players with no ambition. West ham should’ve have sold rice, they should’ve convinced him that they were going to improve the team and try and win more silverware.Last season we only just stayed in the premier league, and now we have sold our only star player! Sullivan and Brady should resign if we struggle again,or worse still get relegated this season. All the other teams Aston villa,Newcastle,Brighton, forest and even palace have reinforced their teams where we’ve stood still and done nothing! Sullivan and Brady sold the stadium move to the west ham faithful,by insisting that we would be challenging with the top six every season. And be in Europe and challenging for domestic honours.SULLIVAN and BRADY OUT !!!

    • Dave Hammer says:

      54.5m represents a small profit?
It’s 17m more than we paid and after 2 years his value in club accounts will be 23m. So the club have made over 30M profit showing under PSR.
      Thought you’d know that

    • Julian Woodhouse says:

I agree with until you said only star player, Bowen is far better and more consistent. However, the heart of your comment is correct imo, how many of the so called stellar signings have we gone on to build a team around, none, not even Bowen, who is our star player.

  • Charlie Corrolli runs our circus says:

A world class team in a world class stadium. Don’t make me laugh!

  • Kenny Irons says:

How much extra will be added to the £55m, we need about six decent players to try and stay up !
    Our sponsors should be Carlsberg.
Are we the worst run club in the history of football ? Probably….

    • Julian Woodhouse says:

We are looking to let up to 10 leave, 6 is bare minimum, hope they have them all lined up like dominos or we are in trouble.

  • Des Pondent says:

Our board make Delboy look like a shrewd businessman.

  • Phil Baker says:

Kudus is under contract until around 2028 and as such can only be sold if the 85 million release clause is activated or Westham agree to sell him for cheap . Just imagine what would happen if every player was allowed to break their contract and leave for cheap to the one club that they wanted to join . What would Arsenal do if Declan Rice said I want to go to Spurs now for 50 million . Of course it would never happen . The Saudi’s were willing to pay a lot more but Kudus decided to screw Westham . Aguerd wants to leave as well so do Westham agree to sell him for 10 million after paying 30 million .and Alvarez for 20 million after paying 34 million . A dangerous precedent has been set by Westham .

    • Savvy Supporter says:

You can’t have a bidding war when only 1 club bids.
Chelsea we’re quiet. And Saudi links never materialised or were just agent talk. But once Kudus went to the media saying he only wanted Spurs we were stuffed.
Sully got the £ over 3 years not 5 so a small win. But Kudus is the villain. As fir the others, their value decreases in our accounts every season. But they are only worth what someone will pay.

  • Nelly says:

I mean, £55 million for a player who has had one decent season in the Prem is a decent amount of money, considering that is nearly 20 million profit. His attitude last season was appalling, as was his form. Good riddance I say, but the money needs to be invested wisely. Not frittered away like transfer windows before. Hopefully Potter can reinvest and get some decent deals in.

  • Glenn says:

No one except Spurs wanted him! I think Spurs have been sold a dud! WHU will laugh all the way to the bank. The lack of interest in Kudus is quite telling.
Give it 6 months and his attitude will kick in.

    • Tom says:

      Make you right glen
He slung his toys out the pram when he didn’t want to be there anymore
      Proper players don’t do that

  • Pav says:

How can they try to defend selling to Spurs? What a complete joke. We allowed ourselves to be backed into a corner and now trying to justify that it’s a good deal? Sullivan is clueless and Levy has run rings around him

    • Dave Hammer says:

Who would you have sold to ?
      There were no other bidders.
Sullivan was holding on in hope.

  • Terry says:

Let’s hope they don’t take their usual amount of time getting replacements as the transfer window will be shut by then

  • Retired Hammer says:

Sorry to say I would imagine Mr Kudus has by forcing a transfer to Spurs will suffer terrible stick when playing the hammers in the same class as “Rat Boy” Jermain Defoe, Fat Frank lampard, and even Paul Allen & Martin Peters in a lesser degree. I remember Ted McDougall getting the treatment from the Chicken run when he returned with Norwich City. I would reckon old Mo will be known as Kudus the Judas from now on.

    • Morty says:

I read that then Hammer of the Year Paul Allen wasn’t offered a new contract, so as a free agent had a choice of Liverpool or Spurs. The lad didn’t want to move out of London so chose the latter. If true it reconfirms that Sullivan’s board is not the only bad ownership we have suffered

  • Hammer56 says:

I cannot believe this. Why oh why are we back to a selling club. All my dreams have now faded and died.Kudus was the one bright spark in a terrible last season yet we have sold that bright spark to the spuds to help them win trophies just like Rice. And so now we will get dross to replace him and our dreams will continue to fade and die.

    • Savvy Supporter says:

      Kudus was the bright spark

Bowen and AWB might laugh at that nonsense.
      5 goals
A month out for losing his head…at Spurs

      Bright spark. Lol

    • Julian Woodhouse says:

He wasn’t though, he was awful in attitude, effort and performance. It is not the selling of him that bugs me but the price and to whom. Potter has some work to do, minimum of 6 players needed, no pressure Graham!

  • Dave Quinn says:

Reports say he asked for transfer and came late twice to training. You can’t make someone who doesn’t want it! Did well to get 55m with no one else interested! 55m should get at least two players. Any other dead wood asking to leave – show them the door.

  • kcockayne says:

“Hopefully the money is used wisely to improve the team”. I suppose that there is always a first time; but I , for one, am not expecting it to be spent in this way !

  • MJ says:

The board have been hawking kudus around for weeks trying to sell him, including to Spurs, are we now meant to believe Sullivan didn’t want to sell him before he handed in an alleged transfer request. How gullible does Sullivan think fans are, what a bloody joke

  • Mark says:

It highlights that a top player does not want to play for West Ham and that West Ham are skint. The spokesperson is an idiot if they think that is a decent argument for selling him when they spent £40m on Kidman who is average at best

    • pat says:

have to agree mate i mean Kidman no exactly in her youthful days now

      • Simon says:

Excuse me … Kudus as a cornerstone for the club’s future? • Wow.
Has anybody been watching West Ham’s games last season?
Did you miss seeing the unpleasantness this player brought to the team. No smile, no sharing and no honoring team mates. And not many goals and assists. Same contributions to the Ghana mens senior team. So sad.
And then if a man requests a transfer … give that to him if its clear you cant convince him to stay.
Everything of the best to Kudus. God bless WH.

    • Hammeroo says:

@Mark. Nicole Kidman does not play football at all, let alone play for West Ham! She’s an Aussie actress and a rather good one too.

    • Dave Hammer says:

      Ah
      Kidnan

      What a player

      Up there with Wonaldo

  • Tim says:

What’s there to be furious about? There were no other bidders! If he is worth the same as Cunha or Mbuemo then they would have been lining up. And he isn’t based on performances.and decision making.
But they weren’t lining up. The ‘market’ was just Spurs. 55 is the correct price.

  • Steve says:

Did he really ask for a transfer, it makes it seem a bit to convenient to make the transfer necessary, and as for the payment over 36 months it’s a joke.

  • Glenn says:

His attitude stunk. We got a profit on a player who, rather than play his way into a move to a top club, quiet quit when we needed him.

Spurs were incredibly lucky in Europe (where was our Bodo Glimpt semi?), and they will be out of Europe by Christmas. Frank will be binned off in a year or 2 like all the other talented Spurs bosses chewed up by Levy, and then Kudus will shipped off in a series of loans to La Liga whilst running down his contract.

Meanwhile, we can use that cash to invest in players who will yield a much higher return on investment. Football clubs are a business, ours is no different, and this makes business sense.

  • mark wiggins says:

Yes reinvest but get in with it , a few more should be sold as well

  • Slater says:

So what was the 40m needed to be paid all over if all the funds are for transfers?

  • Willsy says:

Move too a new stadium they said
Sign world class players they said
Compete with the top teams they said
No more relegation battles they said
All going to plan then. Time to get out of our club now

  • John Lattimore says:

He asked for a transfer. No point bleating about it if he doesn’t want to play for us

  • Dudley Tyler says:

Small profit? He cost around thirty-eight million. Sold for fifty-five so about a 50% return. On the books 40% of his cost will have been accrued – around fifteen million – so in total for Financial Sustainability that will be a profit of over thirty million. Less of course than the release clause, but that’s hardly unique.

  • Burch says:

That might be the worst argument I’ve ever heard

  • garry rogers says:

How much class will £55 million buy? The supporters and Sullivan are in dire need of it.

    • Essexiron42 says:

I’m not sure that we will have £55 million to spend on replacements immediately if the transfer fee is spread over 3 years. More like £18 million surely up front which doesn’t even buy anything like one player at top level. Haven’t been on C&H for ages but seems our dreams of building a top 6 team and attracting top class players is further away than ever. Now we can’t even compete with clubs like Brighton, Brentford, Spurs etc never mind top 6.

  • John Ayris says:

On last seasons performances he is not worth £55M. The lack of wider interest suggests the same.

  • Mick bering says:
