The West Ham United Independent Supporters’ Committee has delivered a damning verdict on the club’s former executive leadership, claiming they laughed when informed the Hammers were being overtaken by the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford.
The criticism came as part of a wider review of the season and Fans’ Advisory Board’s communications with the club.
For balance, it should be said that the report was largely positive when discussing Karim Virani, who succeeded Karren Brady as West Ham’s chief executive.
However, when addressing wider concerns regarding the ownership and direction of the club under David Sullivan, the report pulled few punches.
It also highlighted the fact that Sullivan has overseen five relegations during his 30 years as a football club owner.
Warnings Were Given Long Before Relegation
There remains a temptation to search for a silver lining following relegation, particularly if it finally leads to the restructuring and rebuilding promised in recent club statements.
But it’s clear the FAB, like many supporters, remain sceptical until tangible changes are actually implemented.
At present, despite promises of a Director of Football, a new structure and a rebuild, very little has changed.
When reflecting on discussions with the club during August 2025, the FAB noted that concerns surrounding recruitment, leadership and financial management were raised well before West Ham’s eventual relegation.
“Concerns were not raised with the benefit of hindsight. Before August was out, FAB members had warned the Club of the risks facing the team.
“Concerns over squad depth, recruitment, leadership and direction were discussed openly, while many external observers viewed West Ham as genuine relegation candidates.
“We also drew the Club’s attention that Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford had all overtaken West Ham, something that was laughed at by senior now ex Club executives.”
Fans Were Proven Right
The comments appear to have been aimed at former vice-chair Karren Brady and former executive assistant Tara Warren but did not specify.
Brady in particular often took a dismissive tone whenever it was suggested that clubs such as Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford had moved ahead of West Ham, not just in recruitment but also in infrastructure, planning and ambition.
How patronising it must have felt for supporters and FAB representatives to be laughed at for raising concerns which ultimately proved entirely justified.
As Bob Monkhouse famously said, they’re not laughing anymore.
What was obvious to many football supporters at the time has now become reality.
And if those lessons still haven’t been learned, then West Ham may be about to repeat the same mistakes all over again.
Him and her are both football executive pygmies.
What can’t speak can’t lie. We’re worse off financially and football wise after their years of authority. Everyone knows they’re incapable chancers. Everyone knows sullys shady background. He can’t hide forever. And how that rude brassy ignorant woman can be on the tele giving out business advice eludes credibility
I’ve always stated that Baroness Botox isn’t particularly bright.
What makes it worse is how arrogant, condescending, and patronising she is despite being so dim and about as useful as a fart in a packed lift.
Gonzo this is just the sort of ineptitude in the boardroom we have to get rid of. Unfortunately until Sulivan goes it isn’t going to change.
I agree Rob, it’s completely disgusting
Sadly this doesn’t surprise me. Brady’s aggressive, arrogant stance has been a regular feature of her business life. I get she had to survive in a male dominated world but through personal experience the best are never aggressive nor arrogant. Confident definitely, but more personable and even humble. Not exactly personality traits you associate with this failure of a CEO
