West Ham Transfer News
According to reports George Earthy is heading back to Bristol City on loan and raises uncomfortable questions about why one of West Ham’s most gifted academy products never got a real opportunity under Nuno Espírito Santo.
During his last spell at Ashton Gate, Earthy didn’t just impress, he became a fan favourite. He won Bristol City’s Young Player of the Year award, contributed goals, creativity, and control, and helped push the club toward a top‑six finish. His technical quality and ability to dictate tempo stood out immediately.
For Bristol City, this is a coup. For Earthy, it’s a lifeline to play regular first team football. Though for West Ham, given their precarious league position many supporters will be scratching their heads.
The youngster missed most of pre‑season with an ankle ligament issue, then suffered a hamstring injury in Nuno’s very first training session at Rush Green. Yet since recovering, has put in some strong displays for the under-21s in order to capture the eye of the Portuguese Head Coach. However, despite being one of the most technically gifted academy players, Earthy simply never climbed high enough in the pecking order to force Nuno’s hand.
ExWHUEmployee believes the club have activated the players automatic one year extension, given his current contract expires in June, and all eyes will be on how he performs in the Championship- a league that his parent club may soon be playing in.
Despite my pessimism re. Earthy and Marshall, that each is given the chance to develop further in such good environments (Bristol City and Vfl Bochun with ex striker Uwe Rossler as manager) is necessary and a great move.
Still hope to see both play for WHU but…
Same as everyone here, do not understand he has never been used. He has proved his worth at all levels and he cannot do more to prove himself, just like Marshall (player of the year at league 1 Huddersfield Town ). Plenty of occasions when Earthy’s flair could have been used to inject some inventiveness & skill in the last 30-45 mins of a game, especially up front – the team needed it. NES never attempted to integrate them.
Very glad to see the lads go out on loan and not hanging around making up numbers and playing for 5 mins at the end of matches which was sickening to see and trite. Gives them a chance to develop further.
I do wonder if any academy players will be in the 1st team next season and do fear that NES sees them as a stop-gap. Hope I am proven wrong, but in the case of Marshall I think he is more a Cottee style of player and NES does not know what to do with this kind of player and lacks flexibility to adapt play to include such a useful style of player.
He was good enough for David Moyes two years ago. I just don’t get it.
This is a mistake we are going to need a full squad for the second half of the season and midfield will be key, especially with JWP and Rodrigues hopefully leaving. I guess this puts to bed any stories of Paqueta leaving this month. Please West Ham keep hold of Kante, we will need him
That’s Lopi, Potter, and Nuno who haven’t fancied the lad.
Bristol City fan at work said Earthy struggled to get in their team first half of the season but came good second half.
If he was good enough he would be in and around the 1st team like Kante and Mayers.
Another very poor decision, should have already had a few games to see what he can do. Question is how can you judge him without giving him game time? Game against QPR would be an ideal chance now we’re at this point. Hopeless management and even poorer chairman and board. I am slowly loosing interest in the club exactly for these reasons.
Earthy will probably help Bristol City get promoted. Then next season he will be a Prem player with them, whilst we languish in thr Championship.
We are SUCH a short sited club!!!
Bit of practice for next year then
I don’t really get this decision. He succeeded last season at Bristol City, he needs minutes at the higher level here.
What a short sited view. He far better than Rodriguez. Well can only say how a messed up club we r and a laughing stock as per usual.Good luck to him
Pure W Ham madness So the circus rolls on
Nuno has clearly made up his mind that Earthy is not good enough for him. Looks an odd decision to me as he always looks the best player in the under 21’s. Summerville is hardly playing well on the left, surely he should have been given some substitute appearances
Hopefully he will be back next season to help try and get us out of the championship.
Thankfully Nuno won’t.There is no doubt he was brought in at a difficult time but he is far too defensive for me and he clearly lacks man management skills. As for his game management skills they are non existent. He just stands there stroking his beard and saying nothing. All the successful managers are far more animated e.g Unia Emery who was like a jockey getting over the line in the recent game at LS
