With the transfer window open, Tim Steidten is reportedly working furiously behind the scenes to identify new targets. With limited cash, his remit is focused on loans or younger players who can be fast-tracked into the first team.

One such player who has caught his attention is Dutch attacking midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi, who has represented the Netherlands at Under-21 level. Banzuzi currently plays for Belgian club OH Leuven, managed by former Welsh international Chris Coleman.

A number of clubs are also interested, including Monaco, Brighton, and Leicester City.

The latter club have an advantage in completing any deal, with King Power being the owners of both clubs.

It has been reported that the Belgian club have priced the youngster at £10-£12m. Banzuzi, who has a contract until June 2026, has established himself as a first-team regular, making over 47 appearances for his current club since 2023. He began his career at NAC Breda, making his debut in 2021 at the age of 16 and going on to make 51 appearances, contributing 5 goals.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

Oh God,it’s the silly season again. Until we realize that the lunatics are in control of the asylum. We can’t believe anything we read. 60 years for me and West Ham are still a club full of nutcases.

Why would any youngster come to West Ham? Our own talent can’t force their way in (Scarles, Potts, Orford, Earthy, Marshall), and then the youngsters we do sign are left to flounder (Guillerme, Brown, Luizao). Even the ones who do come in and do well (Kudus), our current set up does not play to their strengths.

I’d imagine Rafinha might be more of a likely punt. Certainly the agent might help…
