West Ham Eye Sensational Craig Dawson Return After Wolves Contract Twist

West Ham United former favourite Craig Dawson could sensationally have his Wolverhampton Wanderers contract torn up, according to an update in The Athletic today.

Dawson became a cult hero at West Ham after an impressive loan spell from Watford, which led to the Hammers signing the towering centre-back for a bargain fee.

In terms of value for money, his signing ranks among the club’s best transfer deals in recent years. A goal-scoring defender with a no-nonsense style, Dawson was a firm fan favourite. However, due to family reasons, he eventually had to move to the Midlands in a drawn-out transfer saga that saw Wolves finally secure their man.

It’s fair to say that ‘Balon Dawson’ or ‘Virgil Van Dawson’ left the London Stadium on good terms. However, few would have predicted a potential return to East London.

Yet this morning, reports have linked West Ham with a fresh move for the 34-year-old—should his Wolves contract be cancelled.

Wolves boss VĂtor Pereira has made it clear that Dawson has no future at Molineux, as he looks to overhaul his struggling, relegation-threatened side. As a result, a contract termination appears increasingly likely.

Whether West Ham will make a bid remains uncertain. But with a shortage of fit and competent centre-backs, there could be one last swansong for the Hammers’ cult hero. Dawson could also look to reunite with former teammate Max Kilman who he played alongside in the Midlands.

Would rather see Kaelan Casey get first team opportunities than bring 34 year old Craig Dawson back. He dud a great job in his time here, but it’s time to give youth a chance.

Could be very useful for Craig and West Ham. Just 4 months for both to ‘endure’. Certain all could live with that.

Wolves might not be happy with this arrangement though. No reward on their investment. Might set a precedence for future similar loans or transfers. Can’t see it happening.

What is sensational about signing a 34 yr old has been? The past is the past and what counts now is today and he is just not good enough anymore at 34

Apparently he won’t be allowed to sign for a English club until the summer, my understanding is he can train with one but not play.

  • Simes says:

They can’t bid for him as he will become a free agent after the transfer season is closed. His options therefore are:
1 Go to a foreign club with a window still open
2 Train with a club until the next transfer season
    3 Retire

    • Macephtopheles says:

Clubs can sign free agents at any point either inside or outside of transfer windows so literally none of that is the case.

      • Simes says:

Only if they are free agents before the close of the transfer season, clubs can then sign free agents for 2 weeks.

  • Kenny Irons says:

His family didn’t like London that’s why he moved, so think this is a non starter.

  • Petet says:

Great move . Not the most talented but can defend and offers a goal threat. Hopefully he could teach Killman a bit of both !!

Would rather see Casey get game time than bring Dawson back, as great as he was. Let’s look forward, not back.

I reckon, if anything, he’ll stay up country and go to Moyes.

Potter makes the calls now and wasn’t here when Dawson was a crowd favorite. Unless his current data is promising (which given Wolves want him out sounds unlikely) he win’t be coming back. If Craig is looking to continue paying at 34 he’ll be looking at the longest contract he can get, and that’s more likely with a Championship team.

  • Pat says:

Short term and a cover for our defence it is a no brainer and if it helps out Dawson until he can get a new club closer to home then i think it is a good fit for both.

  • John Ayris says:

Can’t see it. Not when it was the travel that was the issue, that’s not changed.

That is what I always thought/

Indeed. He left to be closer to his family.

Listening to an interview with Ben Foster last year and he said Dawson is just family driven and isn’t interested in socialising.

      Would seem strange.

Short fix would do me less error prone than mav ,good reliable cover for the remainder of the season . As for another expensive cast off from man u, no thanks with in theory better players around Hoy he still isn’t a regular scorer.
