West Ham United are circling Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, but his future remains up in the air after a stellar season.
West Ham are undergoing a significant squad overhaul this summer, with a top-quality striker a top priority alongside central defenders. New manager Julen Lopetegui and technical director Tim Steidten are reportedly aligned on transfer targets.
Steidten is revisiting some of his January targets, including Guirassy. David Moyes‘ previous reluctance to pursue these players, instead focusing on Kalvin Phillips, is believed to have played a role in his departure.
Guirassy enjoyed a breakout season with Stuttgart, bagging 29 goals and 2 assists in just 26 starts. His goalscoring prowess was instrumental in propelling Stuttgart to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga.
Reports indicate that West Ham have reignited their interest in Guirassy, who possesses an attractive £17 million release clause.
Sebastien Hoeness, previously linked with the West Ham managerial position, has been upfront about Guirassy’s future. While acknowledging interest from West Ham and potentially others, Hoeness expressed his desire to retain the striker. However, he concedes that Guirassy deserves a move to a bigger club if a “European giant” comes knocking….is that us? European giants?
At 28, Guirassy might not be the exact profile Steidten is targeting in terms of age. However, his experience could be invaluable, especially considering West Ham’s need for a focal point in attack.
With his future uncertain, Guirassy remains a player to watch closely as West Ham look to bolster their attacking options this summer.
He’s a bit long in the tooth for a striker, but at €17M I’d say go for it. If he can give us two good years that will be a good deal. Would be nice to bring in Guirassy and another, younger striker.
