West Ham United are reportedly keen on bolstering their defensive options with the signing of Johan Vasquez from Genoa. The Mexican defender has caught the eye with his impressive performances in Serie A, particularly his ability to contribute to build-up play from the back.
Vasquez’s FBref statistics make for very impressive reading.
The left-footed defender ranks in the top 18 per cent for blocks per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe.
Furthermore, he sits in the top 16 per cent for shot-creating actions, again showcasing his playmaking abilities from deep.
Known for his dominant displays, Vasquez has attracted interest from several clubs, including Inter Milan and another unnamed Premier League side. However, West Ham are believed to be in pole position to secure the 25-year-old’s signature, with a potential bid imminent.
The Hammers are keen to add depth to their defensive options, and Vasquez’s left foot and passing ability would make him a valuable asset to manager Julen Lopetegui’s side. Also with a potential fee of just £8.4 million, the Mexican could represent excellent value for money.
I struggle to get my head round the pessimism. Yes history says we tend to loose young talent to other “bigger” clubs, yes you could point out recent activity in the transfer market over the past few seasons but can we look more on the bright side to a new and exciting season?
We needed defensive reinforcements … the owners backed the new manager and forked out 40 Million for one of the best English centre backs around.
We need cover for Vlad at right back … yes we’re trying to get proven quality but J’Lo has been trying different options in pre-season including playing Kaelan Casey out there which excites me.
Left back … Cress still has something to offer, Emerson is quality and Ollie Scarles is waiting in the wings.
Midfield … if we include the promising youngsters I don’t see a big problem here with healthy competition for places.
Investing in youth … Luis Guilherme!!
OK I concede we have needed a quality striker in their prime that nets regularly as Antonio has been brilliant but is reaching the end of his career, but what other Premier League side doesn’t? The biggest prize asset in any top side so will always come at a hefty price with plenty of competition from other clubs.
Where and when is the striker arriving we can’t go into a new season without a goal scoring centre forward.
We have one, his name is Michail Antonio and on his day he is unplayable. The want for more is understandable and shared but at some stage realism has to kick in. Strikers that come in and immediately score goals in the prem from elsewhere are VERY rare. Proven strikers that have a premier league CV and are in their prime are ridiculously expensive.
It’s no accident that we’ve been in the striker market for many seasons, tried and failed to get a good fit, so has just about everyone else. Ideally one of the young lads steps up but … Sonny Perkins, Divin Mubama?? Hopefully Callum Marshall or Gideon Kodua bucks the trend.
After shouting above quotes in various footballing media groups need to see some action.
Signing 3 players in 5 weeks is not a good prospect when new season starts in 3 weeks.
Still need r/bk, l/bk, c/bk, l/wing and striker.
Stop chasing no hopers that budget is not available (Kante).
Concentrate on feasible prospects.
Compared with some clubs looks like whu are getting left behind, not unusual.
It was all go, go, go for first signing and then what happened, nothing much.
Come on Tim flack Moyes got will be nothing compared to what will be coming your way unless you sort out expected signings.
Another one on the pay roll “The Pearl Diver” ! Why can’t we sign players prior to preseason games ? Every year the same scenario ! I thought the whole point in getting Steiden in was to address this ?
Words you’ll never get bored of seeing in print.
“Be careful what you wish for” (my favourite)
“West Ham seem to be in pole position to sign”
“West Ham are reportedly keen on bolstering their defensive options”
“West Ham are interested in (insert ANY name here)”
You forgot “we tried but couldn’t get it over the line” 😂
