West Ham’s transfer spend of £122m over the summer, offset by £40m in outbound sales, resulted in a net spend of £82m. This summer’s net spend means there will be limited funds in January for Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten. Additionally, £34m has already been committed for next summer’s transfer budget for Jean-Clair Todibo, triggered after just five appearances due to an obligation to buy.
It’s also worth noting that while the final agreement that brought Carlos Soler from PSG to West Ham was a loan deal, all parties are keen to make the move permanent. This would likely reduce any future transfer funds.
The club is also awaiting more clarity regarding Lucas Paquetá’s situation, as the FA charge against him is expected to be resolved before the next transfer window. If found guilty and subsequently banned, West Ham would need to find a replacement. If the player is cleared, it would allow the club to plan for the future with the Brazilian or benefit from a potential transfer fee if he is sold.
Hi Gonzo. Last week your colleague Simon informed us that Soler’s salary is around 240K p.w. How on earth can we expect to make that deal permanent next summer? It’s not only a question of finding that amount of money to pay him, but the unrest/new expectations within the rest of the squad.
When does Solers contract end with PSG ? He’s not going to be getting 240k a week anywhere else once that ends.
If that happens to be next Summer then there would be no expectation of us paying that sort of money in wages.
Not really surprising given the spending, while not much business is done during the Winter window as a rule anyhow.
It’s time to see what can be done with what we’ve got, we require a certain amount of time for it all to bed in.
