However it is dressed up, the West Ham summer window is off to a pretty lamentable start. Looking for positives is a challenge this summer with the club needing to sell before buying: News today that one of the clubs long-term signing targets is ‘no longer a player of interest‘ can only be seen as a massive backpedal in the face of -more than likely-Tottenham’s re-signing of their former defender.
Putting a brace face on the news, exWHUemployee via thewesthamway.com suggests that:
“Graham Potter has players ahead of him in the list and Walker-Peters is at this stage now not considered a target. ..We have been advised that Kyle Walker-Peters is no longer a priority for the club this summer”.
Which is either a massive Baldrick-style cunning plan too complicated for us mortals to understand, or a monumental humbling at being unable to compete with clubs around then for even a free signing thanks, presumably, to his sign-on demands and wages. Walker Peters was the subject of West Ham interest last year when the Hammers baulked at paying Southampton’s reported £20 million demands and chose to wait until the player was available on a ‘free’.

No longer a target – Kyle Walker Peters
Whether Walker Peters ends up back at Tottenham, or indeed elsewhere, it seems West Ham have let another top choice slip through their fingers, however it is dressed up as ‘part of the plan’.
I do look forward to learning the identity of the ‘other players’ now in the list ahead of Walker Peters.
This was always a likely outcome when Spuds landed Champions League football as West Ham’s plans unravelled before their eyes.
More grist to the mill for those who forecast doom and gloom with Potter Macaulay and Sullivan running transfers, I’m afraid. And harder for those of us trying to remain optimistic in the face of another failure to land a target.
From what i have read/heard the problem seems to be that the players want to work under different managers and Potter isn’t on the list
Personally not fussed by KWP would prefer we get younger players with better potential, he is a good player but not a first choice.
You cannot be serious with the greatest of respect. KWP, is one of the best in UK. Our club need success, using a mix of youth and experience.
It’s the same old story we tried but failed surly they most know who they would be targeting The owners need to put their hands in their pockets and at least try to give potter and his team some chance of being a success the majority of the players we have at the club are mostly far to slow especially in midfield and a striker that can run knows where the goal is and is in top shape not like the knackered strikers we seem to be linked with bottom line is spend the money to vastly Improve the squad or be prepared to be relegated
Martin Treasure suggesting that he is one of the ones trying to remain optimistic……. I’ve heard it all now 😂.
Always!
Looking grimmer by the day ,could be a case of picking up the crumbs from the floor in the hope someone has dropped a tasty morsel
So much doom and gloom on here and we’re not even at the end of June yet for goodness sake! Give them a chance to do their jobs and let’s see where we are come the first week of August
Cheers Gazza
Nice to hear that not all posters on this site are ‘flaming pessimists’.
The squad are still on their holidays (No doubt soaking up the sun on the Essex riviera) and Potter and his team are still doing their homework, negotiating, testing the market etc..
Meaning, West Ham are unlikely to be a top draw this year for the top talent (No European adventure etc.) Waiting to see what drops out the tree and who’s offering what. No cause for panic.
Only Sullivan is to blame Potter and Macaulay can do nothing whilst he holds the purse strings and plays football manager…….we all no what is coming and it will not be any player of substance because why would they come near us and the circus that we are.
How about a good window would be, Mads Hermanson, Yunus Musah, Mario Stroeykens and Dewsbury-Hall! Probably need a few shrewd additions but I’m sure there are plenty of promising youngster’s that along with Earthy, Potts and Scarles and the best of the established senior players who will be pivotal for a good mid table position. We more or less wasted all the budget last summer let’s not make the same mistake again £40m player’s best avoided and reassess come January! Mr Sullivan if you need an advisor I’m free but more importantly I’m very cheap!
Better resign Cresswell , Coufal and Fabianski because no one else wants to join the sh1t show that’s Westham . I predict very few signings prior to the start of season 25-26 followed by the excuse of poor form due to no preseason for the squad . Then Sullivan will avoid sacking Potter until after Christmas by which time the season is dead again . Season 26-27 Wrexham in the Premier League and Westham in the Championship .
We seem to have got ourselves in a terrible financial mess. Paying large amounts in amortisation and wages for players that now have little resale value. Hopefully we will atleast make a reasonable profit from the Kudus sale but I think it will take many transfer windows to get us out of this hole.
Unless we get this window significantly right we’re in trouble. I’m finding it really hard to drum up enthusiasm for we will get it right to be honest, we’re not off to much of a start are we.
We will be playing with a patched up side from last season, not an overall thats needed and that can only mean one thing, Championship here we come!
Does sound a little preemptive for “tomorrow’s news” that KWP signs for XYZ club, doesn’t it?
Fingers crossed we are wrong and they’ve got someone better lined up….
