West Ham fans stranded after game

|

Hundreds of West Ham supporters were stranded at a London main line station after the Europa League Group game causing major disruption at London’s Waterloo station.

A fatality between Wimbledon and Surbiton caused the main route to closed and power to be turned off for four hours as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Fans travelling Surrey or Hampshire were advised to book hotels overnight or find their own taxis home.

South Western trains advised that because of the petrol crisis they were unable to put on replacement buses and/or taxis themselves.

Uber fare prices surged around Waterloo station as commuters and fans battled to get home in the early hours of this morning.

South Western trains said last night “We are very sorry for the delays this evening due to an incident between Wimbledon and Surbiton. We have been unable to reopen the line due to the Police dealing with an incident.

We have been trying to get replacement buses and taxis, but unfortunately, due to the fuel shortage, this has been very difficult.

Passengers with tickets dated today (30/09) will be able to travel tomorrow (01/10) If customers can source their own taxis and keep the receipts, then this can be claimed back from our Customer Services team. Alternatively, if anyone wishes to book a hotel for tonight then this can also be refunded from”

This morning they added “Passengers may be able to claim compensation back for hotel bookings if they were unable to complete their journey last night. Please contact Customer Services for further details with proof of a valid ticket and receipt from your stay.”
