Moyes with head of recruitment Rob Newman
West Ham remain in talks to sign wonderkid Carlos Borges from Manchester City for a fee reported to be in the region of £14million.
Borges joined City from Sporting in 2014 and the winger is now regarded as one of the most talented players in any English youth academy.
The 19-year-old is expected to choose the Hammers over Brighton, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Portugal Under-19 international is said to be frustrated at the Etihad with Pep Guardiola’s offering him little chance of getting regular first-team opportunities.
According to the Daily Mail, Man City have insisted on a buy-back clause in the deal.
Borges is not a typical David Moyes player which has led some to speculate whether the move could show the early influence of new Technical director Tim Steidten
However, the Mail claimed West Ham were pondering a summer move for Man City starlet Borges back in April which indicates this approach is probably connected to head of recruitment Rob Newman.
If West Ham sign Carlos Borges it could be Newman swan song and remaining legacy on the former City guy’s short time at West Ham.
Carlos Borges is still only 19 and from what I’ve heard, would be a great capture for any Premier League squad looking to bolster their U-21’s/23’s squad. A fee of £14m looks an ambitious ask from Manchester City especially as Borges has not even had two minutes from the bench at the end of a Carabao Cup tie against the likes of Crewe or Grimsby. I certainly wouldn’t allow a ‘buy-back’ clause! It’s a good proposition for Borges as he’s most unlikely to get a first team opportunity at Manchester City in a team that already has De Bruyne, Grealish, Foden and Mahrez to choose from.
Ha ha, dream on West Aussie Hammer 1 (maybe I’m WA 2!). Watching the China v Denmark game on TV from Perth Glory’s home ground at the mo. Anyway, I’ll be glad to hear we have signed ANYBODY by the end of the coming week. Dithering Dave and co don’t seem to have made any progress in the speed department when it comes to getting players in.
Looks a better deal than Harvey Barnes, and surely shows the influence of Steidten.
As a statement of intent and to bring our transfer business up to speed what we need now is a £80m triple swoop on Chelsea for Gallagher, Broja and Maatsen.
I’d love to see all of those at Westham for sure
