West Ham are fuming following Crysencio Summerville’s delayed decision to undergo surgery in an effort to fix his ongoing injury issues.
Claret & Hugh spoke to a top club source this evening after the Dutch winger posted an update from his hospital bed following the operation.
As C&H have covered extensively since early February, Summerville initially chose to ignore club medical advice recommending surgery on his troublesome hamstring. Instead, the 23-year-old believed it would be better to try and recover through physiotherapy — despite the same procedure proving recently successful for Bukayo Saka.
Speaking to C&H this evening, a senior West Ham source said: “Sadly, it’s added another four months to his comeback. He should have had it done at the start.”
Summerville’s eventual decision to have the recommended surgery has not gone down well at the club, with serious frustration behind the scenes.
He is now not expected to be fit for the first couple of games of next season.
Had the former Leeds United man agreed to undergo the operation in mid-January as initially advised, he could well have returned before the end of the current campaign — and been fully fit in time for pre-season.
The situation has only added to the sense of frustration at West Ham during a season already beset by poor form, worse performances and injuries to key players.
Can’t blame the guy for not wanting to go under the knife, but if a 4 month recovery was known we should have booked the surgery in for a few weeks earlier so he was ready for the new season. It’s what a well run club would have insisted on.

It’s his own body. He’s not a piece of meat. Yes, he’s getting paid as a professional but that doesn’t mean you give up the rights to do what you think is best for your own body.
What do footballers know about injuries and their own body in terms of rehabilitation? Are they trained specialists? He can seek a 2nd opinion but if the medical staff are recommending surgery and he refuses, then players should be dropped to half salary at least.
No play no pay! But I do hope he has a successful recovery and look forward to his return to the team. He is an exciting player when fit and healthy.
It was obvious that magic crystals and meditation wasn’t going to heal Summerville and the consequence is that he won’t be anywhere near match fit for four months . Let’s hope that his injury situation doesn’t spiral down into a Cornet type debacle .

Sorry mate no-one is going to buy the club and become a majority shareholder when we are in 17th place and could well be relegated next season. It’s just not going to happen as they would lose an absolute fortune and any major investors would only be interested in top 6 clubs competing in the Champions League. We are a million miles away and the only possible change may come if Kretinsky decides to sell his shares and quite honestly who could blame him the state the club’s in. .
Sullivan and co need to sell up and get out of our great club . We have owners who are only interested in how much money they can make as a result of that they really don’t care about the club it’s just a ATM to them. We are a huge club we deserve ownership that have ambition are determined to take the club forward and challenge for a top six position in the league who take the league cup and fa cup seriously .
