West Ham Gain Ground in Relegation Race After Forest Slip at City Ground

West Ham have closed the gap on relegation rivals Nottingham Forest following an exciting end to what was possibly the most boring game anyone will care to see this season.

Liverpool beat Forest 1–0 at the City Ground thanks to a late goal from Alexis Mac Allister, who had already seen one effort ruled out by VAR in the 89th minute.

However, the late drama was not reflective of a match in which genuine chances were few and far between. Both sides laboured in attack, despite Forest probably edging the contest overall.

There was little quality on show from the champions, with Mohamed Salah in particular looking a shadow of the free-scoring player who has dominated the Premier League over recent years.

Late Goals Reshape the Relegation Picture

The Hammers were not quite so lucky in the other 2pm Sunday kick-off, where a 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers side almost held on for a draw against Crystal Palace, before eventually succumbing to a late winner.

Ordinarily, Palace might not be factored into the relegation dogfight. However, they arguably have the toughest run-in of fixtures, so defeat today could have been catastrophic for them.

Fortunately for West Ham, Forest’s defeat means yesterday’s 0–0 draw with AFC Bournemouth now looks very much like a point gained rather than two dropped.

And based on what we saw from Liverpool, there was precious little in their performance to suggest West Ham do not have at least a sliver of a chance when we head to Anfield.

Liverpool were truly awful I hope all the team watched the game because even tho we rarely get anything up there we have to give it a go, not like when we played them at the LS Late last year

Bournemouth was 1 point earned- they have only lost 1 game in the league this year and that was Arsenal Jan 3rd!! Both Liverpool and Fulham’s 5 game form are below ours. We have to play to win every game. All of our 3 managers this seaon opted to defend and came unstuck but Nuno changed it around and has transformed us.

It’s now Arsenal four, Tottenham look awful, no new manager bounce there…

After that Liverpool performance today I genuinely feel Liverpool will be the more worried about next Saturdays fixture than us. I honestly think with our current form and cofidence we could walk out of Anfield with all 3 points. Bournemouth was a blip, we should’ve scored about 2.

Did anyone seriously expect Forest to get anything against Liverpool. Bournemouth was a must win for us. I have said for weeks we needed to win 7 games to get to 42 points. We beat Burnley and thus needed 6 others, Bournemouth, Fulham, Wolves, Palace, Leeds, and Everton being the six. We got a point against Man Utd which wasn’t expected. If we win the remaining 5 of those can get two draws somehow that gives us 42. As we know 42 may not be enough. But we need to win those 5 and then get 2 points from Liverpool, Man City, Villa, Arsneal and Newcastle.

Not beating Bournemouth may not be the final nail in the coffin; but its getting mighty close. Failure to beat Fulham will almost make teh drop certain.

The dropped 20 points from winning situations have cost us dear. Much of this is Nuno’s fault his desire to try and shut up shop with the worst defence in the league has been foolhardy and costly, after all the best way to defend a 2-0 lead is to make it 3-0.

I think that many fans countrywide would like Forest to be relegated for having 4 managers in 1 season – unfortunately fans opinions don’t translate into points

We will go there and win 😄COY

  • John Ayris says:

That’s ideal, Liverpool win without looking too good as we play them next weekend. Arsenal plainly in charge of proceedings at Tottenham so look most likely. Running them down one point at a time will do.

  • Pete says:

Liverpool are a different animal at Anfield. No chance of getting anything there.
