West Ham could turn to a loan deal for Harvey Elliott after struggling to meet Liverpool’s £40m valuation.
That’s the latest update from The Sun, which is unlikely to come as much of a surprise to anyone closely following the Hammers’ window so far.
The newspaper is calling Elliott Graham Potter’s “top target,” and as a result, West Ham are said to be exploring all possible avenues to make the transfer happen.
Ironically, last summer the Hammers spent exactly £40m on Julen Lopetegui’s top target—Max Kilman—but it’s unlikely to be that straightforward this time.
Whether Elliott is really Potter’s standout acquisition is hard to verify. After all, West Ham desperately need pace and athleticism in midfield—qualities Elliott doesn’t exactly bring. But there’s little doubt Potter would appreciate his creativity, composure on the ball, and eye for goal.
Whether Liverpool would accept a loan deal with an obligation to buy remains to be seen. It’s hard to imagine too many clubs queueing up to hand over £40m to Anfield—especially when most with that kind of money are investing in elsewhere.
At the risk of repeating myself, this transfer still feels unlikely. But if Elliott is genuinely Potter’s No.1 target, then West Ham must exhaust every option to get it done.
What annoys me is how Sullivan is always prepared to splash the cash on players for foreign managers like Pellegrini or Lopetegui who are massive failures then when a British manager comes in to put things right they have to do it on a shoestring.
Surprised comments have been approved. References to foreign managers is offensive. Please all remember to be polite and avoid nationalism.
I’m not sure about Elliott he has good skills set I just don’t think he would fit in with the rest of the squad in the manor of how high is his wage demand he will be on a lot more at Liverpool than we could afford to pay then there is the fee for bringing him in to the club if we do want to sign him I don’t see the point of a loan deal he could be brilliant for the loan period then Liverpool can call him back to Anfield and we have to look for someone like him to replace him if we buy him outright then he will our player and we could benefit a lot more from the deal should he signs for us on a permanent deal
So, we’ve sold one of our best players and then we can’t afford to replace him and have to go begging for a loan deal. How far has this club sunk? Shame on you Sullivan.
For god sake Elliott must be worth 40 million
Please chairman do not miss out on a chance of a life time
Forget Grealish go for the 2 Liverpool guys
This could change us for years to come
My not worry is does Elliott want to come to West Ham
