West Ham have received a boost following the news that striker Niclas Füllkrug’s injury is not as serious as originally thought.

The German international was injured during training this week after scoring for his country in their victory over Hungary.

He will miss this weekend’s game against Fulham but should be fit for the following game against Chelsea.

It was initially feared that he was suffering from tendonitis, but medical checks revealed it was a bruise to his ankle from a knock, and he has been advised to rest for three days.

Whether West Ham coach Julen Lopetegui plays Michail Antonio up front remains to be seen. Antonio scored for Jamaica in an away game against Honduras early this morning but still needs to fly back to England and recover from what will surely be an exhausting trip.

Jarrod Bowen seems poised to switch to a central position to cover, having replaced Harry Kane twice during England’s Nations League games.

Play bowen down the middle and kudus out on the wing for goodness sake 🙏⚒️

  • Barry Ewart says:

If Bowen slots in at #9 he’s proved with his spell there last season and his brief cameos for England that he’s as comfortable there as on the right wing and has had two attempts for England blocked on the line.

  • Andy Stone says:

Great news. Not too much of an inconvenience having to play players out of position to cover.
