West Ham Get Slap in the Face as Duran Signs Mega Deal

West Ham hopes have been dashed with the news that Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran has cemented his long-term commitment to the club by signing a new six-year contract, putting an end to any Hammers’ hope of signing him.

The 20-year-old, who was the subject of strong transfer interest from the Irons over the summer, has now secured a deal that will see him remain at Villa Park until 2030.

To rub further salt in the wounds, Duran has been scintillating this season in his role as an impact substitute, netting four Premier League goals from the bench and recently scoring a humdinger in the Midlander’s Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich.

On Sunday, The Sun reported that West Ham’s director of football, Tim Steidten, felt ‘unsupported’ by the club following his recommendation of the Colombian striker.

Those reports have since been dismissed by a club insider, although a top source has revealed to Claret & Hugh that the Hammers had genuine interest in the player and made multiple bids.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I’m only interested in our recruitment team finding the next striker to make it as was done with Duran by Villa. Then super Tim Steidten swoop in and sign him.

What a miss ! Save pennies lose millions of £’s

  • Garry crawford says:

Who cares I’m fed up hearing about Duran I’m only interested on who plays for us .

  • Phil Baker says:

Westham needed a race horse ( Duran ) and bought a broken donkey ( Fulkrug ) . Spending 25 million on another Ings-like player was criminally negligent . Buy the right player or don’t buy at all .

We had a chance and the dumb idiots let him go…and would rather have 3 Chelsea pensioners as our forward line ……..all that money they have wasted in the past on hugill etc….and tgey let this lad with huge potential go fo the sake ofca few million …he was the perfec fit ….just like toney when he was offerd for 5 mil …..🤡🤡🤡🤡

      Yep thick as shit

  • John simmonds says:

We quite plainly dodged a bullet there. He got 60 mins yesterday and never scored. Absolutely rubbish.

  • Orfords Mum says:

And Villa wanted Orford as part of the deal. I’m glad we didn’t sanction that.

£60m would have been crazy but Solanke went for £65m so the market for a striker we need with premiership experience is clearly in this context and signing two proven strikers from abroad has failed – and time will tell on the third but I am dubious.

We cannot start another season with Antonio and other 30yr old+ strikers with no mobility.

Guilherme and Somerville didn’t both need to be bought. One or other with the extra budget applied to a striker would have given us more options than Fullkrug

How is it a slap in the face Gonzo ?

We were never really close to agreeing a deal, the player did everything he could to get out of Villa, Villa supposedly wanted £60m for him, he is still unproven over a long period of time so am fairly certain not many clubs would dream of punting £60m on a 20 year old.

No doubts with the benefit of hindsight it would have been good if we signed him but not at £60m hopefully we can sign someone equally or more talented, to be fair Wolves look like they have signed another good forward, I was hoping we were going to take a punt on him, he is proven in LaLiga and would have cost us a fraction of the price, watched Jota for Forest yesterday another we could have bought for peanuts that looked good and has goals in them.

Some transfers we win some we lose, unfortunately with Duran he was too rich for our budget, it’s time for Steidten to work his magic again and find another pearl.

    Give it a rest please

Its the 100th story about a bloke we didn’t get, move on with your life for goodness sake

Let’s ignore the fact that Duran has played this rather nicely. Six year contract at improved terms for a moody player? Imagine that. Let’s also ignore the fact that as Reo-Coker suggested on a podcast this weekend Duran is an impact sub at this point and will likely remain so this year while he works on his 90 minute game. Amazing those who cry out that we wouldn’t increase our bid, likely something north of forty million, for an impact sub. Still it fills the forums until the PL starts again.
