West Ham’s relegation rivals Nottingham Forest were in European action last night, but their approach may have said more about their priorities than the result itself.

A 1-1 draw in their Europa League quarter-final saw Vítor Pereira field a largely rotated side, with only a smattering of first-team players involved — a clear indication that Premier League survival remains their focus.

Forest rotation hints at survival priority

Their continued involvement in Europe could still become a distraction, but the team selection suggested where their priorities lie.

However, it may be another club’s European campaign that has a more immediate bearing on West Ham.

Palace’s European run could benefit West Ham

After facing Wolves, the Hammers are due to take on Crystal Palace — who are on the brink of a Conference League semi-final following a 3-0 first-leg win against Fiorentina at Selhurst Park.

The result leaves Oliver Glasner’s side in a strong position heading into the return leg in Florence. Palace travel to Italy before facing West Ham the following Monday, and there is hope their focus remains on progressing further in Europe.

First things first: Wolves must be beaten

But before any of that comes into play, West Ham must take care of business against Wolves tonight — no excuses.
