According to the Sun, West Ham United are not willing to meet Corinthians’ asking price for promising teenager Wesley Gassova.

Wesley is a highly-rated talent, and the Hammers have been trying to secure a deal for him. We have already agreed one signing from Brazil, with Fabrico Bruno from Flamengo agreeing to join the club.

West Ham’s director of football, Tim Steidten, has scouted extensively in Brazil and recently made two trips to South America around West Ham’s Europa League quarter-final. Steidten believed he was close to finalising a deal for the young prodigy, but Wesley’s value has nearly doubled following a surge in form. While West Ham are interested in the 19-year-old, they are not prepared to pay the £30 million currently demanded.

Wesley progressed through the youth ranks at Corinthians and broke into the first team in 2022. This year, he has made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

He has also played in continental competition, featuring in the Copa Sudamericana and scoring in Corinthians’ most recent group game against Argentinos Juniors.

Whilst he may be good, he isn’t proven in Premiership, Corinthians upping the price, and without Paquetta funds we don’t have the money.

    • John B says:

Remember we done the same with Neymar if I’m not mistaken

      • Peter says:

He scored 5 goals in Brazil come on 30m please surely you not saying that’s good gamble

        • Kip says:

No one ever knows until they play in prem..they should sort a deal with playing time attached and targets met …we hsve missed out on so many decent players in the last few yesrs ..mostly moyes not willing to tske a one really knows until there played….tripper toney ezere cash..just to name a few because of the ditherer. 🙄

  • Benny the Aussie says:

30mil is a bit rich, I agree with above, they should try negotiate a deal based targets met, this really should be norm but the rich clubs always pay.
I really hope we get some genuine talent to boost this squad, along with youth and hopefully players like cornet given a fair crack

  • Phil Baker says:

30 million is too much for an unproven kid playing in a pub league . Better make sure he doesn’t pick up dodgy yellow cards either .

  • weathamsteve says:

This is just Corinthians way of saying he’s not for sale.

  • Pongo says:

Mark my words we will only be buying players from the. Bargain basement, we need at least 8 or 9 new players, at least 7 players are leaving and we are not going to get big money for any of them, so if you factor in 50 million from players sales with the supposed 100million transfer chest the most we will be paying for a player will be 20 million and that could only be 1 or 2 the rest will be free transfers like fotheringham and bargain basement buys, time to get real people.

  • Peter Yeatman says:

I think we are going for two free agents from the national league if terms with the agents can be met .

    • Pongo says:

The agents fees will cost more than the player, seems quite the norm nowadays. And i have some advice for those south American players your coming from a country were teams don’t pay big money so the riches you will get here should be taken immediately as you won’t get more in any other country the, whola of Europe don’t pay what we pay, take the money come over and prove yourself then negotiate a better deal but don’t get greedy, the big money is in Saudi but they don’t sign young talent, they only buy proven talent. You all seem to think your neymar or Ronaldinho guess what your not, but we have the, same thing here I had gmhigh hopes for mubama but he hasn’t proven himself yet, and he is being badly advised by his agents and the, reason for this is, agent fees they can get if they ill advise you to move on by saying your better than you actually are, and putting pound signs into your eyes, well son if you move on good luck but you won’t develop with a leeser club than you would have, at west ham, so remember patience is a virtue.
