Following on in the footsteps of January signings Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, the Irons appear to be racing ahead in their efforts to sign a third recruit to their relegation fight.

Most West Ham fans would expect a defender to replace Maximilian Kilman, whose form has been particularly poor in this season, to be top of the list and ‘urgent’ for immediate action. However, not so according to multiple reports today that claim another forward is in the Hammers’ crosshairs. Sky Sports’ Germany and givemesport.com  are amongst the news outlets that confirm:

“West Ham Join Race for Andreas Schjelderup”:

“West Ham have entered negotiations to sign Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup in January, Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed.”

Baby faced Norweigian Andreas Schjelderup

Another Nuno signing from the Portuguese top division would not surprise many – but the priority placed on recruiting another winger would certainly raise eyebrows. Surely the focus should now be on stopping the seemingly endless stream of goals being conceded.

Possibly Schjelderup is deemed a more effective, younger version of Nuno’s top ‘pick’ Adama Traore in which case that is something to celebrate but if there is a shift of focus away from defensive reinforcements then that is a huge worry. Of course, it is quite possible that the Hammers plan reinforcement in BOTH areas – now that Fullkrug and Guilherme have left it would seem logical – if totally out of character – for the Hammers to add to their £50 million spend-up already undertaken this month.

Amazing what panic over retaining  Premier League status finally creates. Shame the West Ham board didn’t spend this cash in August and then, quite possibly, they wouldn’t be left looking like a Premier League basket case just five months and just three PL  wins later.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

We could have saved money on a wide man and played George Earthy there. He came on for Bristol City today and got an assist. If it’s a clash of personalities I would prefer Earthy at West Ham than Nuno

We definitely need a left winger who can score goals like Bowen scores goals as a right winger. Summervilles just not cutting it I’m afraid.

Although would prefer centre backs am not opposed to us getting cover in on the flanks as we literally only have Bowen and Summerville.

Why are we not buying defenders
I do not understand, waisting money now on wingers/midfield/strikers
We need defence in quick if we stand any chance at all and now

Have all of you “It’s not Nuno’s Fault” fans heard enough yet, or do you need further confirmation that he not only has no clue what is required, but is actively trying to get West Ham relegated? I find it hard to reach any other conclusion knowing that funds are limited and defenders are an absolute requirement.

FFS Sully don’t you ever learn? Sack him and get a very attacking coach and DOF and step down!! It’s A LOT cheaper in the long run and it’s the only way you walk away with a shred of dignity
