West Ham United could be on the verge of a surprising transfer coup, as they find themselves in a bidding war for out-of-favour defender Nayef Aguerd, according to Hammers News

Despite struggling to adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League during his two-year stint with the Hammers, Aguerd has seemingly retained his appeal in Europe. French club Rennes, his former employer, and Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid are both reportedly interested in acquiring him, with a price tag of around £30 million being floated.

The report suggests that both Rennes and Atletico Madrid have recently secured significant financial resources, making a move for Aguerd more feasible.

While a return to Rennes is an option, Aguerd is believed to favour a move to Atletico Madrid.

West Ham, under new manager Julen Lopetegui, are reportedly prepared to sell Aguerd. This potential sale could see them recoup the entirety of the £30 million they paid for the defender in 2022, aligning with their plan to reshape their backline.

If West Ham manage to sell Aguerd for his original purchase price, it would be a remarkable financial success story. Recovering such a significant sum for a player who has underperformed would be a major boost for their summer transfer plans. The additional funds would be a valuable resource for Lopetegui and technical director Tim Steidten as they look to strengthen the squad

Aguerd’s skill set as a defender is best used in a high line so that he can use his pace and telescopic legs to tackle back on forwards . If Lopetegui intends to play with this tactical set up then Westham should try and keep him , if not then sell him . Hopefully no more Moysie style square pegs in round holes .

Aguerd has been poor for us mostly, his heart isn’t with West ham so get rid, but you won’t get more than 20 million, as he has been pretty poor and hasn’t performed at anywhere near the standard he produced for morocco. Bye

I reckon he would flourish under a new coach , who maybe wouldn’t **** him off but would nurture him , I think we should keep him , after all he is an international in pretty good Moroccan side?

Are we missing something here? If true, AM is managed by one of the worlds best defensive coach ( Simeone), if he’s interested in one of our CBs, maybe it should be us who needs a reassesment!
