West Ham in Driver’s Seat as PSG Push to Offload Carlos Soler NOW

West Ham are in a strong position to capitalise on PSG’s desperation to offload Carlos Soler permanently and are willing to walk away from any deal for midfielder.

The Hammers currently have an agreement with the French club that includes an option to buy Soler at the end of the Spaniard’s loan spell.

However, the Ligue 1 side are keen to transfer the player’s registration immediately to free up room for their own transfer business. As a result, West Ham are playing hardball, attempting to negotiate a reduced fee to make the deal permanent.

Initial valuations of £24 million have already dropped, with most media outlets now suggesting £17 million could clinch the deal for the former Valencia midfielder.

West Ham are fully aware they hold the upper hand and have little urgency to finalise a deal for a player whose loan runs until the season’s end. The pressure is entirely on PSG, leaving the Hammers in an excellent bargaining position.

There is still some internal reluctance at West Ham about offering Soler a long-term contract, especially given other transfer priorities. That said, if PSG’s asking price drops further and the midfielder agrees to reduce his significant wages, an agreement could yet be reached

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

If we play hardball with PSG then don’t expect them to do us any favours, loan or sell us any players in the future. We seem to have a way of peeing these clubs off don’t we.

The reason they want to do a deal is because they have one too many players out on loan so are in breach of fifa regulations. We could use the situation to negotiate a lower fee or alternatively see if they have any good young talent for sale and get two for the price of 1

Happy to pass and let Potter come up with his preferred players.

You say we have no urgency to complete the deal but he is probably our best performer in midfield right now. I hope this gets done.

Soler has some talent but a very high salary . After 3 years of incompetent transfer dealings ( Moyes , Sullivan and Steidten ) , Westham can’t afford to waste money on any players who are worthless just after they sign for Westham . Seemingly there has been no due diligence relating to past injury record , ability to play in particular system or good attitude .

Decent technical Player, but yet another one incapable of actually taking the ball past a player. We already have Paqueta, Soucek, Alvarez, (and JWP) with the same deficiencies and Saturday showed us that we are desperate for pace and strength all over the pitch. Should not be going near this one considering his age and wages. Never going to set the Premier League on fire…. we should be exploring the option of taking a compensation payment to allow him to return.

  • Chris David says:

I guess the pertinent question here is: does Potter want him? Doesn’t really matter if he’s a “good deal” if the manager doesn’t play him.

  • Ray says:

Another minor distraction, meanwhile, there are only two more weeks left in this transfer window, and nothing looks like happening at West Ham yet.

  • CJ1972 says:

From what I have seen thus far, I would be sending him back to PSG. Hardly set the world alight and would rather Earthy and Potts be brought back than have Soler. Him and Guido are not the right fit for us or the PL. We need legs in midfield and Soler and Guido have none.
