People love it when they stand the chance to beat the odds, even when they seem stacked against them. Take casinos as an example. Thus, it is safe to say that it is not at its best, and it’s easy to see why many of its fans worry about getting relegated. But has the team always toed the line between relegation and staying on in the Premier League?
Not at all. In fact, the last time it was relegated was back during the 2010-2011 season, and it made it back to the EPL the following season and has managed to remain in the league for the last 14 years.
Might 2025-2026 Be West Ham’s Relegation Season?
Despite West Ham’s 14-year stay in the Premier League, it looks like the team is at a high risk of bidding adieu to this top tier. But why?
For one, they are currently in 18th position, which means that any losses they incur during the next 7 matches will cost them greatly. This poor position is further compounded by their poor defence this season. They have conceded so many goals that they now have a poor goal difference of -21, which is worse than what their rivals boast. As such, if the teams finish level on points, West Ham could take a very big hit.
To make matters worse, their next matches will be with teams such as Brighton, Tottenham, Bournemouth, and Burnley. While these games are mixed when it comes to difficulty, the games against direct rivals such as Tottenham will have a big impact on whether West Ham manages to claw its way out of the bottom 3.
Even with these risks, fans and many experts are hopeful that West Ham could avoid relegation. Part of this hope hinges on the fact that Nottingham Forest and Tottenham are a few points 3 and 1 point ahead of West Ham, respectively. They, too, have had a rough season, as follows:
- Forest has drawn 8 and lost 15 matches.
- Tottenham has drawn 9 and lost 15 games.
So, if West Ham can match their points and perform even better than them, it could easily trade places with them, seeing as its performance is quite in par with theirs.
Additionally, while West Ham may be in the bottom 3, its counterparts, Burnley and Wolves, have 20 and 17 points each. Therefore, West Ham has quite a comfortable buffer between it and them, and it can focus on getting out of the rough spot while knowing that the two can hardly catch up with it.
As things stand, analyses show that West Ham’s future in the EPL is at risk, but nothing is set in stone. If they can secure a couple of wins, especially against Tottenham, they can prolong their stay in this top tier.
