West Ham United have launched a surprise bid for the 24 year old French defender Jean-Clair Todibo , according to L’Équipe. However, their £30 million (€35 million) offer has been rebuffed by OGC Nice, who value the player higher.
The Hammers’ move comes amid Manchester United’s failed pursuit of Todibo. They were strong contenders for his signature, with the player keen on the move. But their efforts were halted by UEFA’s new multi-club ownership regulations, leaving them frustrated on the side-lines.
While West Ham’s initial offer wasn’t enough to tempt Nice, the French club is reportedly open to selling Todibo this summer. This potential transfer is part of a planned squad overhaul, with midfielder Khéphren Thuram also expected to depart, possibly for Juventus.
West Ham’s interest in Todibo is another effort in the clubs quest to land two central defenders which Julen Lopetegui has deemed to be a priority. The Hammers clearly see an opportunity to snatch a defender coveted by Manchester United, with Nice willing to negotiate, the transfer story could take another turn.
Now that Manchester United are out of the picture, West Ham will undoubtedly have a decision to make but much depends on the progress of the clubs pursuit of Max Kilman. It wasn’t too long ago that Todibo was being hailed as the best big thing so he won’t come cheap. The Hammers may well be able to afford top money for one central defender but the second will likely have to be a budget or loan signing.
Todibo at 24 compared to Kilman at 27 is no brainer at say £40 million and less if we can get them to take Xouma for say £10 million
Is this just wishful thinking on behalf of whu management.
Can understand haggling but you do need to be somewhere in ballpark.
If asking price is £45m there is no point offering £30m. That is just taking proverbial.
When they don’t get player it’s almost an excuse to say we did bid for him.
Almost every proposed player is out of our depth.
Suggested £100m kitty needs to be £200m+.
Need to look at realistic options otherwise eleventh hour scramble is on the cards.
I agree let’s just get on with it. Weeks and weeks have gone by and still we have hardly brought anyone!! Get your finger out Loppy!
Struggling to believe these endless stories, we don’t have a load of money to spend, but need 6/8 new players. These figures you keep quoting buys us very little
