West Ham United‘s hunt for a new striker has taken a surprising turn with reports suggesting they’ve approached Newcastle United for permission to speak with Callum Wilson, according to Knees Up Mother Brown.

The 32-year-old striker is expected to be on his way out of St. James’ Park this summer. Entering the final year of his contract and with Newcastle reportedly chasing Dominic Calvert-Lewin , Wilson appears surplus to requirements for Eddie Howe.

This reported request follows earlier talks between West Ham and Newcastle regarding Wilson . It seems the Hammers are keen to gauge Wilson’s interest in a move before committing to a formal transfer bid.

West Ham’s striker situation is a cause for concern ,while Jarrod Bowen thrived as a makeshift striker last season, scoring an impressive 20 goals, he is best deployed on his natural right wing.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has lauded Wilson’s ability, but his injury history is a major concern for West Ham. Furthermore, at 32, questions arise about his long-term reliability compared to Michail Antonio

West Ham’s striker crisis is undeniable. Callum Wilson offers experience and goalscoring potential, but his injury record makes him a gamble. The Hammers must decide if the potential reward outweighs the significant risk associated with signing the injury-prone forward.

How much truth there is in this story remains to be seen. Reading between the lines there is probably more desire on the Toon’s part to sell Wilson than there is for West Ham to buy him. One would hope that our clubs days of signing over the hill injured players are behind us.

Another Sullivan inspired sick note special. Has been a good striker, definitely ageing, injury prone, pushed by his agent for one last big payout, would deliver us nothing like Carroll and Wilshire. Pass the ten foot barge pole!

  • Ian says:

This is a Danny Ings type signing. No way does it fit the type of player that Steidten wants. Thankfully the ‘story’ is only from KUMB.

No, no, no, no, no NO.

Doesn’t meet our criteria in ANY way.

This would be an ACE signing if we can get him. Watched him play a couple of games and he always seems to get a goal. Just seems to get it in front of goal. Please sign him!

    Looks unanimous, no thanks.
Only possibility is next to nothing transfer fee and follow Newcastle put him on bench as a backup.

Avoid at all costs. A diving injury prone aging prima donna. Other than that I love him …..

  • Phil McDonald says:

This sounds like a typical Sullivan special. It goes completely against the Steidten philosophy and must have Jlo scratching his head too. An even worse idea than Kalvin Phillips. Meh !

  • Pete says:

Why get a Toney when we can get a Sully special, injury prone, agent driven Wilson 🙄

Might as well sign Wilson Calvert Lewis to go with Antonio high wages massive amount of games missed through injury typical West Ham
