West Ham have received the most derisory of offers from Marseilles for Dimitri Payet which, should a multitude of clauses come to fruition, would have given us just under £20 million.

It has been rejected and the French club told to come back when they are ready to start living in the real world.

Marseilles have offered around the same up front as we paid for him – £10 million – with the remaining “balance” based on the club reaching the Champions Cup or Europa League placings.

Even were such a proposal acceptable – which it’s not –  it may be a good idea to remember that currently the club sits in sixth place in Ligue one  with 30 points – twelve off the top three places!

Unsurprisingly, despite the hopes of many fans that the bloke will soon be gone, the board has simply laughed off such a derisory offer.

And they will not be entertaining anymore talks until Marseille come back with a straight cash bid of between £30  to £35 million.

We were categorically told by club insiders that the first approach has been dismissed and that Marseilles, currently being taken over, needs to understand the players worth of which currently they appear to have no idea.

only get rid for 35 million, else let the richardhead rot.

people say we waste money on his wages, but selling him on the cheap is equally as much of a waste.

if schluup is worth 12 and hogan 15, payet, 17th best in the world, is worth 35.

personally i want us to send buckets of kfc to his house everyday and let the pillock get fat.

A player is worth what someone will pay. Where are the teams lining up to sign him? Where were those teams after the Euros? He gets £125k per week. Who will offer more over 5 years for a player of his age? He has a history of this type of behaviour. His form has slipped. He says he does not want to stay in England? I think we will struggle to get what we want unless a big club enters the arena.

If we dont get what we want, he stays put and plays for the reserves. I’m sorry but we cannot let the most financially valuable asset we have possibly ever had go on the cheap because hes thrown his toys out of the pram. Eventually he and Marseille will realise that and will have to come up with £30m plus minimum. Clubs generally take the pi** out of us when we make offers so its time to do the same.

The issue is between wanting to punish him for his stance and wanting to get the best financial deal for the club.
Any talk of a buy and loan back deal is nonsensical – frankly the fans won’t wear it and the players would be furious. He’s shot his bolt and that’s that.
If he is still with us after this window and not playing or training properly, his value will plummet.
Make him squirm, but get rid asap.

Any chance we could have P**** articles without a picture at the top. I have just covered my iPad with spit for third time. Just a picture of a snake, or a toad would do. No disrespect to any snakes or toads.

You don’t sell a player like Payet for less than the market rate, there will be clubs chasing championships that will want a player as creative as him and will pay the fee, if he isn’t playing and has no intention of playing for us again eventually he will change the destinations that he wants to go to and we will get a market rate for him, it will cost less than £1.5m to keep him until the summer and that is not taking fines into account, his basic is £62.5k if rumours are true the rest is made up of bonuses so although that money is dead if we don’t sell it becomes live again (because we can recoup it in a better transfer fee) when the transfer window opens this summer. If he hasn’t played teams will want him for a full preseason to get him back in shape so he would probably go early. His actions mean that our actions as a club are being viewed positively rather than negatively, nobody believes for a minute that £20m is a fair price and they can all see what is happening and that he has been tapped up, the football world is watching us. If I were DS I would stop talking about it as Slaven has and just say when an acceptable offer comes in he can leave if not we will continue to pay his salary and let him rot in the reserves.
