West Ham have been informed of the transfer fee required to acquire defensive target Jake O’Brien.

Crystal Palace stands to benefit financially from Lyon defender O’Brien’s next move due to a sell-on clause, amidst strong Premier League interest in the Republic of Ireland international.

O’Brien could bee poised to return to the Premier League this summer after an impressive season in Ligue 1. Crystal Palace, who included a sell-on clause of up to 25% when selling him to Lyon last summer, are expected to receive a substantial cash windfall. However, it’s unclear if Palace’s cut is based on Lyon’s profit margin from O’Brien’s sale.

The estimated transfer fee for O’Brien is around £15 million, a significant increase from the £850,000 Lyon originally paid for him.

O’Brien is being considered as an alternative to Max Kilman in case West Ham cannot finalise a deal with Wolves. The Irish defender had a strong finish to the season with Lyon, where he played alongside on-loan Hammer Saïd Benrahma, who is expected to make his move permanent.

Same old thing with West Ham Jim, spend all transfer window going after 1 player, it doesn’t happen and we end up with nobody

  • My middle leg says:

Kilman not worth half the money wolves are asking for, second rate defender who’s never played for a big team. At 27 years old we’d have no sell on. None of the so called big 6 have even looked at him, can’t get in the England team even with our defence problems. 15m tops i reckon

    • Jim says:

He should have been called up for England. £45m is to put other clubs off, as Wolves do not want to sell. Not sure why West Ham are still trying to sign him.

If Kilman is not worth half the money Wolves are asking for him. Then look elswhere Hammers and don’t be arrogant loke my middle leg.

  • Mark says:

J.Greaves looks best value and potential to me.

  • Dave A says:

Let Benny go to them ‘for free’, they let O’brien come to us ‘for free’, Palace get f. all!

  • John Tyler says:

Swap Bennie for Byrne then no money changes hands

  • Chris M says:

Kilman is overpriced at £45m, we need to walk away and look at getting O’Brien and Greaves in for combined £30m and move to get a striker in after that. We still have other positions to fill and move some deadwood out to get funds and free up space.

    • Jeeps says:

Kilman is a no go, let Wolves keep him if he’s so important to them.
If it doesn’t work JLo will probably say ‘told you so’.
If funds are that tight alternatives appear to be much better options.
WHU has no problem getting rid of players it’s replacing them is the problem.
Need to delete BARGAIN from their vocabulary.

  • Mike J says:

We could buy O’Brien and Greaves for less than Kilman alone…no brainer for me!

  • Joseph says:

Rather £15million than £45million for kilman…could get greaves from Hull as well so two defenders for £30million better than one
