West Ham Leave Door Open for Duran

A top source at West Ham has cryptically revealed to Claret & Hugh this afternoon that the Jhon Duran transfer is not 100% dead.

Speaking earlier to a high-ranking Hammers official, C&H’s Sean Whetstone asked, “Assume we won’t be pursuing Duran now that we have Füllkrug?”

Most of us were working under the assumption that the Hammers’ interest in Aston Villa’s Colombian striker was over; however, the response certainly didn’t completely dismiss the suggestion.

The Hammers insider replied, “It’s very unlikely unless other forwards go. We’re short of slots, money, etc.”

Well, read into that what you will, but it certainly doesn’t sound like an open-and-shut case. The plural term used to describe outgoing players was fascinating, but perhaps I’m reading too much into it. Nonetheless, I couldn’t help but wonder what might happen if Danny Ings and Michail Antonio were to leave… stranger things have happened.

In the meantime, Villa will have to deal with a very disgruntled player who is already reportedly under investigation for making a crossed Hammers gesture while live-streaming on Instagram. As things stand, Unai Emery faces a difficult task to reintegrate Duran back into the squad.

Three forwards over the age of 31. All with a history of injuries…

It would perhaps be sensible to get someone younger in too.

    • James says:

Fullkrug is fast and lively for 31 years old. He played 54 games last season across club and country (42 for club). He scored 6 goals across 480 for Germany last season and looked great in the Euros. He will be a superstar for us.

    • Ian says:

It would make sense to get a younger, quicker striker in too, I agree. But not at the money Villa want.

  • Pat says:

if you manage to get rid of Ings and Antonio and then sign Duran i feel he may start matches tire defenders out sub on Fullkrug to batter the defenders in later stages and vice versa get Fullkrug to start tire the defenders out physically and then put Duran to run what legs they may have left off them….but thats just a thought as i do not see anyone buying Ings or Antonio

  • Keg says:

    Another Danny ings past it

    • Trevsheadwonthecup says:

I take it you never watched the euros . He genuinely looked like one of the most dangerous strikers in the tournament when playing. 31 now isn’t what it was 30-40 years ago sports science is heavily used nowadays not forgetting the change in diets . Messi was the best player at the last world cup at the age of 35 .

    • Ellis says:

Why they get him and forget about manu player he only in it for money leave him at frmanu

  • elduder says:

no chance antonio we’ll let antonio go, too important

we’ll be looking to offload cornet and ings

    soucek, zouma

and if we get in another RB coufal

the easiest sale would be coufal as he is only on 20k wk, the others we’d need to pay 50% of their wages, soucek would be near impossible, 4 years? 90k/wk – thanks moyes

  • Stevo says:

Please Hammer take Durán off us
He’s potentially a quality player but he acts like a petulant 12 year who’s not getting his way and deserves a slap or 2
I’d let him go for 30 million which by todays standard based on his age is cheap.
No doubt, if you do sign him he will probably get the winner when we play you in under 2 weeks time

  • Irons says:

We should be getting Durán in, the cross hammer alone and the fact resale value also Lopetegui can coach the best out him , prove his worth to the West Ham fans that he’s the right choice.

  • PJ Fisher says:

You are kidding – signing another striker? We need defenders!

  • Billy says:

We have enough attacking players now. People forget we still have Antonio and Bowen, two wingers who can also play as striker. Let’s concentrate on defence now can we.

    • Ironix1 says:

We needed a first choice top right back last season and we were exposed countless times with Coufal, it cost us dearly. It will happen more so this season if we do not put it right now. We shipped more goals than any other team still in the Prem

  • Tay1 says:

Can’t afford to let Antonio go, if he gets his attitude right he could be a super sub

  • Brian says:

Why can’t we offer Aston Villa to take Duran on a season loan with an obligation to buy at a reduced fee. Come next January transfer window Leeds won’t get a penny for him. Duran is one for the future and he seems to won’t to come to West Ham so let’s get him now

  • Stretch says:

    Blood Callum Marshall.

  • Jimmy says:

Can’t see both Mick and Ings going given they make up homegrown numbers. 1, probably Mick as he seems keen and holds more value. Cornet would be the other forward. Confident we get Duran

  • Bonzo says:

Hopefully we dont buy Duran. It will only block the path of Callum Marshall. The kids got something. Save the money for defensive signings which are now a priority.
