£50M defender transfer as scouts swarm to watch trio

The Hammers have been linked with one of the brightest young talents in world football in the form of a £50m rated defender. West Ham scouts were reportedly present to spy in three players during Benfica’s recent 2-1 victory over their rivals Sporting Lisbon.

Reports indicate that West Ham are keeping tabs on Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio and Benfica’s Joao Neves and Antonio Silva. However, numerous scouts from other Premier League rivals were also in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao.

It was an embarrassing night for Inacio, who was sent of during the match. The sending off came just six minutes into the second half, with the centre back shown a second yellow card for a foul on Rafa Silva.

Whilst Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea (can they actually buy any more players?) and Arsenal have been linked with the mentioned trio, representatives from Spurs, and Newcastle were also reportedly present, according to 90mins.

Manchester United are believed to have a purchase option in the Inacio, although with such varied reports it’s difficult to verify. Neves, Silva, and the highly sought-after Inacio, all capped by Portugal, are expected to spark a significant battle for their signatures over the next two transfer windows.

£50M defender? Hammers may have to look closer to home

Inacio, in particular, is seen as a rising star in world football, displaying no apparent weaknesses in his game. However, it remains uncertain whether West Ham, under the management of Tim Steidten, would be willing to make a substantial financial commitment for a central defender likely to command a hefty fee.

Whilst West Ham’s scouts may have been evaluating these players in Portugal, it seems unlikely that the club would sign all three overseas talents. West Ham will need to monitor our representation of homegrown players closely in the upcoming season. With the expected departures of Conor Coventry, Aaron Cresswell, and Ben Johnson, prioritising the signing of British players has become essential.
