Atlético Madrid are poised to cash in on one of their most promising youngsters this summer by selling Samu Omorodion to West Ham United for a fee of €30 million, according to Spanish media outlets.

The 19-year-old attacker joined Atlético last summer when the club activated his release clause with Granada, set at just €6 million. The move was seen as a masterstroke by Atlético to secure a bright Spanish youth international, even if there was no immediate spot for him in the first team squad.

Following that move, Omorodion spent the season on loan at Deportivo Alavés, where he scored eight goals in addition to the one he netted against Atlético for Granada on matchday one. Overall, his first top-flight campaign ended with nine goals in 36 games.

Assessing his stay in Vitoria-Gasteiz, his coach Luis García Plaza said, “He is 19 years old and has had an incredible debut season. I think he has a spectacular future, but he has to improve in many things.”

Whether this is a genuine interest for West Ham and their director of football Tim Steidten or another transfer rumour to be dismissed remains to be seen. However, the club continues their pursuit of Luis Guilherme and are becoming increasingly hopeful.

The Spanish club are also believed to be frontrunners for the signature of Hammers defender Nayef Aguerd.
