West Ham are said to have shown interest in Lazio defender Jordan Lukaku according to the Daily Mail.
The Hammers claimed to be keen on the brother to Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, is a left back who can also be used in an advanced position out wide on the left flank.
The 23-year-old made Belgium’s preliminary squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but failed to make the final 23-man squad. While not always a starter for Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio, Lukaku made 44 appearances for the Rome club in all competitions last season, netting a single goal.
Reports claim he is longing for a move to a Premier League club to be closer to his big brother.
Previously Jordan has said “Do I see myself as Premier League-bound? I don’t know, but it’s a league that would suit me.
“I have always been a fan of Arsenal, but I am mad about every Premier League club as long as the club doesn’t have to fight against relegation.”
Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku are both available to Pellegrini but there is talk that Cresswell would be allowed to move on if another club matched the Hammers valuation for him.
That would be a disaster.
Lukaku is not a world beater, but good enough to give competition to Creswell for the position of Left-back. ( Pellegrini will play a flat back four which means no wig-backs ).
To keep Masuaku who is doubtful at best and sell Cresswell who showed up very well last season is frightening.
Masuaku just about fills in at Left Wing Back; he will never be a Left-back. He also had problems last season playing further forward, where he was being squeezed out on the left by-line by 2 defenders who found it easy to stop his dribbling.
The only realistic option I can see is kicking Masuaku out, and replacing him with Lukaku to compete with Cresswell for the Left-back position.
Cresswells record of assists last season was second to none, among Premier league defenders.
Tom Pearce at Leeds is a very young but very promising left back. Could do worse.
