West Ham Linked With Shock Move for Chelsea Star Outcast

Just when you thought the West Ham transfer rumour mill couldn’t get any more bizarre, talkSPORT have linked the club with a move for someone nobody expected.

And no, it’s not Exequiel Palacios again—it’s Chelsea’s forgotten man and former England international Raheem Sterling.

According to the report, Chelsea are willing to loan the 30-year-old out this season, and his preference is to remain in London. Whether that works in West Ham’s favour remains to be seen. His move to Arsenal, rumoured to be for similar location-based reasons, never materialised—but you’d imagine he’d find it easier to get into the Hammers’ starting XI.

Sterling’s form has fallen off a cliff since his Ā£50m+ move from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge, and it’s likely that Chelsea would need to subsidise a large portion of his wages if a deal is to be done.

Graham Potter, of course, knows the winger well from his brief time managing him at Chelsea, and even had to defend Sterling during a difficult spell, saying:
ā€œThe team isn’t functioning as well as we’d like, as I’d like, so that has an impact on the individuals—and Raheem is an individual in the team.ā€
ā€œThe work for us is to try to improve the team, improve the structures—and I have no doubt about Raheem’s ability. He’s a top, top player.ā€

Whether that means there’s room for Sterling at West Ham is another matter. Having spoken at length about squad unity and building a system-first team, Potter may think twice before adding a high-profile, high-earning figure who could disrupt the balance.

Interesting? Yes. Likely? Not so sure.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender šŸ˜¬āš’ļø Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

    Sadly Sterling is a ‘has-been’.
He has achieved very little since leaving Man City and offers virtually nothing to West Ham who have much better players in terms of current performance and potential.
Do not even contemplate acquiring him, he would just be an embarrassment!

  • Oliver Bucknor says:

All you are interested in is this man’s earnings.
How about focusing on the clubs earnings and you will see that they make substantial profits compared to what they pay players and then you can talk about earnings.

  • Benny Boy Phil Baker says:

I blame Sullivan. What a circus.

  • Steve says:

Don’t see any truth in this honestly. Looking at pre-season seems his preferred setup is 3-5-2, so no wingers. And we already have Guillherme and Summerville in wide positions if he wants to vary it up. So where would he even fit? I think just paper talk

  • Kenny Irons says:

West Ham is like a bloody second hand shop – Sullivan has destroyed this club.
As TC said, we’ll be just a bunch of losers until this Clueless Dinosaur is removed !
    Sack the Board !!!

  • Carl says:

Strange how we’re linked with Palacios then all of a sudden an over the hill cheap option pops up. Absolute classic West Ham tactics

  • Mick bering says:

Not really a shock after all his in the over 30 club and finished Do you know what this window is proving IT WASNT MOYES LOPPY POTTER OR STIEDTEN All leads back to our lousy board for where we are rock bottom

  • Ian Bishop says:

Just so we don’t all have rose tinted specs ….
Harry Rednapp was always buying over30’s and to date he is still our most successful premier league manager …
I’m sure there are lots more than my first list šŸ˜‰
    Ian Wright
    Nigel Winterbourne
    Igor Stimuc
    David James
    Davor Suker
Man City had a few over 30’s in their team last year as did Liverpool ….
Yes ofcourse we want to see good young players but Sterling is still a good player and on a loan I wouldn’t say no ….

    • Benny The Aussie says:

Yes but the standard has grown exponentially since, I don’t know 30 years??
And also it shows we havnt learnt anything in that time.

    • J says:

I remember Teddy Sheringham joined us at 37 as did Stuart Pearce. Alright it was only short term for a year or so but both were great.

    • Ted says:

The pace of the modern day game has moved on from when rednapp was a manager , filling your team with players that are over 30 simply don’t work now days !
You need to give your head a shake if you think sterling is a good player
World’ class players around him made him look better than he was

    • Dave H says:

Harry Rednapp brought 147 players through the revolving door. In 7 years…
Some of them actually kicked a ball in anger…
      Rio money…šŸ’ø

    • Jeeps says:

Times have moved on and pace is a lot quicker than Harry’s decisions.
      Signed Wilson.
      Grealish waiting in the wings.
      Now Sterling.
      This is just bs.
Move on and get experienced younger players that Potter wants.
      Not all these has been.

  • John Lattimore says:

    😲

    GOD PLEASE NO!!!

  • Rock Hammer says:

The key here is ‘he has been offered to WHU’, not been scouted or enquired about.

  • Eddy Trivett says:

The last thing we need is an old winger, hasn’t done much since leaving Man C.
Why are we even considering him. This sounds like another INGS waste of space

  • Ray says:

It was only a matter of time. Out of interest, who has NOT been named as a potential West Ham signing? Being on that list must be a huge confidence killer.

    • John simmonds says:

Messi was up.the Roman looking for a pie and mash shop. Fancied some eels and liquor apparently. He must be on his way round to Sullys place to discuss wages

  • Ian says:

Potter think twice? He can think as many times as he likes but if Sullivan decides he’s signing, the manager gets no say in the matter.

  • M B says:

lol This would be the worse signing ever and the frightening thing is it would appeal to the 🤔

  • mark wiggins says:

Fed up with this crap , another 30 year old has been , that will lower the age of the squad dramatically. Why are we not backing Potter enough is enough.
