Following controversy and huge media outcry today, we can bring you news from inside the club after the VAR intervention in the closing minutes of West Ham’s defeat to Arsenal in the seemingly already infamous Premier League encounter.
West Ham will not take legal action against Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL).
That is the response from a senior club source who revealed “Sadly you can’t sue PGMOL”
The laws of the game specifically make it clear that any decision by the referee on the pitch is final. These laws even go as far as declaring that match officials will not be liable for any loss a club may suffer due to any decision taken in accordance with the laws of the game.
In addition, Ifab’s [International Football Association Board] rules in relation to VAR state a match will not be invalidated because of a match official’s decision not to review an incident or where a wrong decision was reached when VAR was used.
In the past where challenges to ‘field of play decisions’ have been escalated to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland–The court has made it clear that generally it will only get involved where a decision has been tainted by fraud, bad faith, bias or corruption.
Claret and Hugh understand that Club secretary Andrew Pincher West Ham will make an official complaint to the PGMOL and will ask for the audio recording of the incident to be released into the public domain.
So their arses are covered then.In any other sophere if you make continual mistakes then you are sacked.This does not apply to referees and VAR personnel.Here you can make mistake after mistake and possibly cost a club millions of pounds in revenue by being relegated,but that appears to be fine because said referees will be employed again next week knowing there will be,effectively,no repurcussions.WRONG!
To me the issue revolves around how long it took to rule the goal out, in rugby the ref asks the TMO if there is a reason not to award a try, Cavanagh clearly signalled goal and was in prime position so no need for VAR review and read 17 views of the incident, we should adopt the rugby stance and like the 2 yr Paqueta saga we have been stitched up!
Again this is why the Premiership is not working. Officals can make huge mistakes with no pressure on what happens to them. No fines, no bans, no sacking. I understand it’s a pressure job, don’t like the pressure don’t do it. It is now said to be a very well paid job too, so if you don’t get it right their should be consequences! I understand with the speed of the game the officials can make small mistakes, but this is no small mistake with huge consequences for everyone except those making the decisions, and says everything for me. It is also seen in slow motion several times so why can’t they see the rugby tackle on Mav made by Declan Rice to stop Mev getting to the area the ball is heading too. Remember this is happening before the supposed foul on the keeper.

Frankly, a draw v Arsenal was never going to be enough anyway. Our goose was cooked in early January and, despite the good run from then, the disastrous start to the season under Potter when we couldn’t defend is probably going to result in relegation. Who knows what will be left of the club when our best players depart. Coming back up could be beyond us for a year or two. We need to keep Nuno – he did a great job at Wolves when they were promoted
I don’t know about other fans but this isn’t just about the game last night. PGMOL have allowed the rugby style grappling at corners completely unchecked just because it’s difficult to deal with.
It was always going to blow up sometime and create a very important result in league terms.
They have to do their job and stop the fouls it’s just not football to have a WWF championship at every corner
If we could obtain compensation then I think we would have exercised our right when we lost Paqueta for 2 years after our European success, because of a floored investigation about betting
Think we have got to take it on the chin. If that was the var they were looking at it was a foul, unfortunately they were only looking for Arsenal and the goal not the fouls and West Ham players being dragged to the ground( unbelievable)
But small clubs just do not get the decisions. Just imagine if he had let that goal stay,Arteta would have slaughtered him.but we would have got what we deserved for the missed fouls on our players before that.
Just got to suck it up and pray that Leeds might be up for it tonight and help us out
It was a foul, though if that is a foul why didn’t they cancel out the goal and award us a penalty for all the manhandling by the gooners, if one is a foul so is the other.
It goes without saying that if we had had better senior management at our great club, we wouldn’t have needed to win this match to save ourselves.
But my spidey sense, tells me that a collection of individuals somewhere up high, are so sick of Man City winning title after title. They are so desperate for Arsenal to win the Premiership this season, and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. If this is the case, we were cooked even before kick off… Could this outrageous theory be true. Or is it a conspiracy gone way too far?
