With the summer transfer window just around the corner, West Ham United fans will be braced for a pretty destabilising summer if the club slides down into the Championship. It would have been hard enough retaining the side’s top players had the Hammers survived, but with latest relegation chances sitting around 87% ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Leeds, in all likelihood the vultures are already circling hoping to pick off a bargain.
Reports came from Italy suggesting teams like Roma were hoping to ‘steal’ Crysencio Summerville for £25 million – which was of course non-sensical. If, as feared, the Hammers are indeed bound for the Championship, there may be a huge sell off: But not at bargain basement prices.

Mateus Fernandes is being chased by Manchester United: Make them pay through the nose!
…At least that’s the story from thehardtackle.com.
Today’s report claims that overtures from Manchester United for West Ham’s world class midfielder Mateus Fernandes have been met with huge demands which will at least fortify the club’s depressed supporters -it seems that if the Hammers’ prized player assets are to be sold, at least they won’t be flogged off on the cheap, should the report be proven correct:
“West Ham United demanding £84 million for Mateus Fernandes”
Runs their article this afternoon.
“Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 21-year-old West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes in the summer transfer window…However, Manchester United will have to pay a premium fee to sign him…
West Ham United will demand £84 million to sell the player. It is an eye-watering sum for the player, and Manchester United could be hamstrung if they are willing to foot the bill.’
Good. Enough of the ‘West Ham will sell off their assets cheap‘ stories. If they are to go, let the management squeeze every last penny out of the Summer window for these players.
More that just a story about a huge price tag for Fernandes, this news sends a signal. West Ham may have to sell their top players. But they won’t come cheap.
It will be painful enough to see them leave, but at least their sales can then fund the Hammers’ debt financing and rebuild the first team squad in time to hit the ground running in a new-era Championship bid next season.
It’s not a massive price, look at Caicedo, Rice etc Fernandes is better than both at his age and consistently outperforms them in power rankings.
I would be going for £100m plus for him.
I thought this site had debunked all the transfer rumours with an “insider” saying nothing will be discussed until our fate is sealed. Isn’t a story like this just contradicting the previous article?
no new contracts would be offered and no player acquisitions would be likely.. was, I think, how it was reported.
