West Ham appear to finally be ramping up their transfer business with a sensational double deal today.

As reported by Claret & Hugh late last night, the Hammers hope to complete the signing of Soungoutou Magassa today. However, it is the arrival of Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes that looks set to cause the biggest stir.

The Portugal U21 international is understood to have completed either part or all of his medical, depending on which newspaper you read, but most agree the deal is getting done.

Transfer move close to completion

Rumours first surfaced this morning via the Telegraph, before being confirmed by Hammers insider ExWHUEmployee.

Claret & Hugh have spoken to our own transfer source within the past hour, who confirmed the Fernandes deal as “advanced”.

Reports suggest West Ham will pay Southampton £35m plus a further £5m in add-ons for the midfielder. Fernandes has long been a top transfer target for Graham Potter, who will be hugely relieved to get the deal over the line with pressure mounting on his position.

The deal for Monaco’s Magassa is expected to be announced today having completed his medical yesterday. It followed a series of false reports which suggested the transfer was set to collapse when in fact the player and agent were completing formalities.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Will losing our first 3 games be the best thing that could have happened to us? This, along with every reporter/pundit instantly condemning us to relegation, seems to be the only reason we finally got some transfers over the line!
I guess the board could argue that these players were always on their wish list and that negotiations take time… but would we be buying anyone else if we had picked up points against Sunderland & Chelsea?
This window has been an utter mess, our pre-season a pointless waste of time as the players we got didn’t even arrive until the season had already started, and we haven’t even been linked with the positions we actually need! I don’t think there will be any time to do anything after the Forest game other than sell Lucas Paquetá on the cheap.

  • Joe says:

Interesting that we have finally selling half the Women’s Team to a private equally company. Which will ease the psr issues (if they even existed)

  • Hammeroo says:

Where’s all this money suddenly coming from? Don’t tell me Sullivan managed to find some more down the back of the couch! 🤣

  • Kenny Irons says:

Some good news at last, must get in a commanding CB and a CF.
Oh, if we do sell Paqueta ( hoping we don’t) we don’t sell to the.bums from North London.
Kudus sale should be last time we deal with them for 50 years…..

  • Keith McShea says:

These last minute midfield reinforcements give us some crumbs of hope. Smacks of desperation though, so more than an element of luck for them to work! The elephant in the room remains the centre of defence!!! No sign of any new central defenders despite the continued failure of the 4 current centre backs for an extended period of time.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Seems like a good deal if so, hopefully he alongside other new recruits can shore up our midfield. We need to be able to hold teams back, on his own he is not going to be a silver bullet, the defence and attackers need to work better to win the ball back and keep it out.

Am hoping Freddie Potts will be part of that midfield unit and we will switch to 4 at the back to free Bowen and Summerville to push forward.

  • John Ayris says:

These two signings would transform the midfield. The sedentry nature of Soucek, Ward-Prowse, Rodriguez is just ridiculous to play as one unit. It would make a huge difference.

I’m not at all sure though that it’s a cure for all our problems, there’s more wrong than just a snails pace midfield. It is a big step in the right direction though.

  • Andy 74 says:

Jesus do you lot ever stop moaning and groaning look like it or not sullivan is a very succesfull businessman so he does things differently than others would perhaps it doesn’t mean he always wrong if my memory is correct he also pushed to get summerville in last year and just because fernandez is probably on his way with magassa doesn’t mean we have to sell paqueta because the bids only gone up 3m and alvarez wages are off the books with possibly Irving a d Rodriguez also. I don’t see why we need another midfielder when you have potts earthy fearon and Orford centre backs will improve for a better midfield protecting them and up front will look fine with fullkrug Wilson Marshall summerville guillerme and bowen the only place we are currently weak in is in goal but like defence could both improve with less constant pressure so come on cheer up and get on with supporting the best club in the world

    • FFS says:

Andy – head back to Spurs website please. There’s a good chap.

      • Andy 74 says:

I’ve supported this club now for 51 years so I take offence of your kind of put down i just don’t understand the nature to keep blaming people you don’t particularly like but to be honest I don’t really like the bloke but he looks a prat when he’s seen in the stands but it is his and others money that is put in the club yes I understand that the money comes from the supporters but spending money at the club doesn’t give you a say in running the club he’s the one taking the risks every day so just a bit of understanding would help this club alot so just get behind the club support it and show more positivity

    • Ray Stewart’s Right Peg says:

Andy there’s been plenty of “successful” businessmen who’ve made appalling football owners.

    • Matt says:

      Jack Sullivan is that you?

  • TigerSnake says:

Oh thank goodness! I think our defense will look a whole lot better if these two can help us stop turning the ball over trying to attack and not provide an open door policy through the centre of the park.

Sullivan is such a @@@@@@. He’ll take credit now after not backing GP with the funds to have these deals done weeks and months ago when they should have been. Gee that must have been some arm twisting to get his hand in to his pocket to pay for players under 55 years old with no concerning injury record.

  • Ian says:

Good news. Two young, talented midfielders for £60m. Are we selling Paqueta to pay for them? If so we need another midfielder at least.

  • Matt says:

Why couldn’t these deals have been done so both players could have had a pre-season?

We all knew Kudus would be sold so there are no excuses.

Encouraging that Potter & Kyle are getting their primary target. Shame we did it when out of the cup and bottom of the league.

    • Cyncial Hammer says:

Because Southampton were playing hard ball. And as ever, Sullivan wanted to save £. Had we bought these 2 in July we’d have spent 1.5M in wages by now.

    • Whambo says:

He does it to keep the wages he would have to pay out in his pocket.

  • Hammer Ed says:

This signing is welcome Gonzo but unless we get an excellent CB in to strengthen our defence we are still in trouble!

  • Carrick hammer says:

As happy as I am with this news I fear that is the end of paquetas time with us .please don’t let him go to spuds as I think he will be brilliant for whoever he joins .if only we could have them both.

    • Matt says:

Paqueta will shine at Spurs and signing Fernandes just makes me think Lucas will be playing for them 🤦‍♂️

      • Hammeroo says:

Anybody can shine at Spurs. They have a good coach/manager, Thomas Frank ex Brentford. I hope Paqueta doesn’t go there but if he does he’ll be another example of ex Hammers shining at another club.

  • mark wiggins says:

I hope they both get done , gives us a chance to improve our PL position. Long needed legs in midfield. I know it’s wishful thinking but let’s sell Guido , Irving, Palmeres and get a defender , striker you never know.

  • Matthew Reid says:

Can we send JWP back the other way!
Imposing centre back and quick centre forward now please!

  • Jimbo 2 says:

Gonzo – Praise the Lord for Sullivan.

Firstly, this is a positive move what with the other inbound. Still expect JWP to line up beside Fernandes but that’s for another day.

The propaganda and storyline is incredible though. You have to admire Sully as most fans will now direct their attention away from him and back to Potter rather than realising the underlying issues remain and this is just a sticky plaster.

Now to add a third midfielder if all the deadwood is indeed lined up to leave, and for the love of god a blood and guts CB.

    • Gonzo says:

Morning Jimbo, this certainly makes the cornflakes taste a bit better today.

Agreed regarding Sullivan but if the deals are done quickly it does allow Potter half a chance to save his job although I suspect he’s a dead man walking.

      • Matt says:

So was Avram Grant when he took us down tho Gonzo.

How we appointed him I will never know. The managers appointed by Sullivan have never really inspired confidence.

      • Jimbo 2 says:

Agreed. The 5 at the back is killing us with no wingers but I suspect he’s nervous of leaving Kilman and one other alone. Hopefully with the two additions they’ll be able to offer some extra protection whilst speeding up transition of the ball into attack.

Potters formation is uninspiring so suspect it’s only a matter of time.

        • Matt says:

Wing backs isn’t working for Man Utd and they have far superior players to us with the exception of Bowen.

The system has to be ditched or Potter has to be ditched if he can’t use attacking players like Paqueta, Summerville and Bowen.

    • Matt says:

Even propaganda can’t shield Sullivan & Brady from years of incompetence.

Potter will face increased pressure but we all know the root cause of the demise of West Ham.

    • M B says:

I doubt most fans will. We all know the 🤡 is the one who is at the root of all our problems and needs to go.
