‘Living on borrowed time’ is how several pundits have described Nuno Espirito Santo’s position at London Stadium right now.

Winless in nine Premier League games and with a solitary FA Cup win in months, the Hammers are mired in 18th position in the Premier League. Lose at Tottenham on Saturday and surely the West Ham board will have to act.

The board dragging their feet whilst woeful results have piled up over the Christmas and New year period have meant that West Ham have lost out again – on appointing a former Hammers player who’d been linked with the managers’ job.

Michael Carrick has just this afternoon been appointed interim Manager at Manchester United. So much for those who thought Carrick didn’t have the experience for Premier League management. He’s taken over from Ruben Amorim and leaves West Ham even shorter on possible replacements. The Independent even go so far as to label Carrick ‘the Anti Amorim”, being the quiet, unassuming opposite of the Red Devils’ former coach.

The former Middlesboro ‘manager is now the interim manager at Old Trafford until the end of the season, taking him out of any discussions for the West Ham role if (or more likely when) Nuno gets the boot.

Gary O’Neil has gone to Strasbourg now Carrick to Manchester United: Pretty soon it’ll be only Slaven Bilic or Gareth Southgate to choose from.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

A blessed relief that we no longer have to be linked to Carrick or the awful Gary O’Dear any more.

  • Ray says:

The fact that United hired him does not mean he is PL qualified any more than Potter, Lopetegui, Nuno, Lampard or even Amorim.

It’s good news that Carrick is interim manager for Manchester United . I think it will be proved that he hasn’t got what it takes to be a premiership manager.

  • Taffyhammer says:

And the other good news is that Gareth Southgate is saving himself for the permanent position at Manchester United.

  • Zahama says:

It would be nice if Nuno did a Curbs and engineered a great escape – however the worst scenario would see him fired after the transfer window closes and a new manager try to save us with Nuno’s strange signings

Spurs now really is a must win

Prior to Potters appointment Carrick was amongst contenders.
Don’t know whether he is good or bad but number of articles frowned Carrick.
Is this a loss or a blessing in disguise?
Whu, Spurs, Man Utd all looks to be in turmoil unfortunately whu are the depths of gloom.
Only time will tell whether whu might have missed the boat.

We’re as good as down. Carrick will only get to the end of this season so he could be our new coach for next season. That said it’s been reported that Carrick is keen to be more a coach/assistant so maybe he isn’t an option anyway.

No need to panic, Alonso is available now
