Whilst the transfer window in the Premier League may have closed a week ago, it remains open in countries such as Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

And with West Ham sources admitting last week there was a “tiny chance” the Hammers could dip into the market to sign an out-of-contract player, many feared a classic “Sully special” might be around the corner.

The ‘Bosman’ signing most heavily linked with West Ham this summer has been Josh Brownhill. Many Irons fans worried the Hammers would snap up the freebie at the end of the window with the usual “we tried” excuse accompanying the deal.

West Ham bound Brownhill? The free transfer is moving to Saudi for big money

However, it’s become clear in the last 24 hours that West Ham were never truly in the running. Brownhill is instead on the verge of joining Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab on a mega-money deal worth £110,000 per week net.

The former Burnley midfielder had been linked with other clubs this summer, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, but they were never in a position to match the riches on offer in the Middle East.

Brownhill’s move has come as something of a surprise, though personally, I wouldn’t have minded him—so long as it was in addition to Fernandes and Magassa rather than instead of. That said, with the club failing to shift either Andy Irving or Guido Rodríguez, Graham Potter is already well stocked in midfield.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Whu may have a number of players who can score but are not over stocked with traditional strikers
Fullkrug/Wilson_injuries waiting to happen and unable to compete for 90 minutes.
Marshall/Fearon_up and coming but need more nurturing.
Sullivan infatuated by Free Agents (ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ) and possiblyN Brownhill was next but he’s gone.
There is desperate need for a fledged striker.
Marcos Leonardo was a Steidten project in 2023 and came close to joining whu.
He has all attributes for Potter’s needs with experience being an advantage.
Striker who can also play centre mid attack on a Freebie status (should make Sullivan smile, maybe).
    Needs to be got.

Still hopeful with both Irving and Guido with players that have legs and a high technical ability around them they might have more to offer.

Brownhill would have wanted big wages and that hasn’t worked too well for us so far.

I watched Evan ferguson with ireland Saturday night he scored and drew 2 great saves from the Hungarian keeper and an all round good game. I honestly think this is one we are really going to regret .we didn’t miss out on him we HAD him and gave him back would have been our striker for the next 4/5 years and still have had a sell on value.
.potter and sullivan hang your heads in shame

    Guido Yes
I very much doubt if Irving had left that the small change received would have given Sullivan enough profit to even consider bringing in another player

  • Billy says:

Surely ..stocked …………………not well stocked !!
