West Ham United are at a crossroads. The Julen Lopetegui era beckons, and with it, the need for a defensive overhaul. One name stands out: Zeno Debast, the young Belgian centre-back from RSC Anderlecht. While competition is fierce, West Ham should prioritise securing Debast this summer – he’s the missing piece for a solidified backline and a bright future.

Debast’s talent is undeniable. At just 20, he boasts impressive defensive stats, reads the game like a seasoned veteran, and fearlessly wins back possession. His comfort on the ball adds another dimension, allowing him to build attacks from the back and potentially offer cover as a defensive midfielder.

The allure doesn’t stop there. Debast’s contract expires next year, presenting West Ham with an opportunity. A summer transfer secures him before his value skyrockets, while a January approach could yield a cut-price deal. However, procrastination comes with risk. Napoli and Sporting CP are circling, and a bidding war could ensue.

The potential rewards far outweigh the risks. Debast’s age and talent suggest he could become a cornerstone of West Ham’s defence for years to come. He possesses the skills to challenge for a starting role immediately, adding much-needed bite and steel to Lopetegui’s backline.

Yes, adapting to the Premier League’s breakneck pace is a challenge, but Debast’s composure and technical ability suggest a smooth transition. Investing in his development now can reap dividends for years to come.

West Ham cannot afford a repeat of past transfer missteps. Debast is a rare gem, a young defender with the potential to transform their defensive fortunes. Lopetegui needs a reliable backline to build upon, and Debast offers the perfect blend of present impact and future potential. Securing him this summer is a no-brainer – it’s a move that could define West Ham’s future success.

Got get him Mr Steidten !

It’s true though, Pete. The blog was still within its usual frame the day before you came.

Well hopefully with Tim and our new approach to transfers, I hope players, style, youth teams are a thought out process and not just window to window

It’s just more absolute nonsense, rumours that we here before the start of every new season as that, last one ends, i must have heard of at least 50 that we were attempting to sign over the last 2 seasons, sure we need to strengthen but just get on with achieving this now, get the deals done then we won’t be full of false hopes and promises yet again, get rid of the dross & has beens bring in the quality that not only do we need, but it will also show the nuclear of the quality we already have that we mean business and they will then want to stay. Get this right and will be top four centenders every season.

This time last year over 170 players were associated with west ham transfers (obviously some media speculation).
Let’s see how much work there will still be to do on last day of transfer season.
