West Ham target Angel Gomes has not yet decided which club to join when his Lille contract ends in the summer.
The England midfielder can sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside of France now, but it is understood the player is waiting to see if one club in particular shows interest.
At present, Gomes has five offers on the table from West Ham, Fulham, and three other unnamed clubs. However, the player is in no rush to decide, and his representatives (consisting of family and close friends) are expected to ramp up discussions next week.
West Ham did make contact with the player via a third party during the transfer window, but Claret & Hugh has been told directly that the offer was nowhere near acceptable.
Gomes’ main representative is his brother, while his father, Gil, was a professional footballer who played at under-21 level for Portugal and spent the final part of his career at Salford. C&H has been informed that the family will seek an intermediary to help finalise contract details with the chosen club.
However, if the Hammers are to make any headway in signing the skilful midfielder, they will need to completely rethink their negotiating strategy. To say West Ham made a bad first impression with their opening bid in January would be something of an understatement.
That initial offer, however, came before Graham Potter was appointed as the new Hammers manager. Hopefully, any further approaches will reflect the gaffer’s eagerness to sign Gomes
Said it before, but Gomes and Jonathan David being close friends is something that should be making West Ham lean harder on Gomes.
If he gets a great offer from us then him being genuinely interested could be a big incentive for David to consider a (hopefully also) great offer as well.
I know there’s a bunch of naysayers all “But Potts! Earthy!” and I’m just like “How about all three?” Rodriguez and Soler are likely gone so Potts and Earthy are like for like replacements. We also need more cover in midfield as is so Gomes and the incoming (technically even though he’s on our books) Mohamadou Kante would give us depth there and cost nothing.
With lack of money they would have to start low it’s called business
No surprise there then that we’ve low balled an offer for a player Sullivan is a disgrace when in charge of transfers he makes us look a laughing stock sooner ashworth comes on board the better , when you see the words totally unacceptable again the player and his representatives must look and think no point dealing with these put them at the bottom of list great club great fanbase but an abject board .
Tight or restricted?
David & Gomes are mates in same position, out of contract.
No doubt there has been conversation between them about future earnings, signing on fee etc.
Seems neither are really achievable if whu are financially bound by restrictions as believed.
Transfers need to be concrete with established creditable history and affordable.
Any with homegrown status would be an advantage.
Ferguson has been brought in at a cost and continues to warm bench another promise not adhered to.
Guilherme joins him with Potter dangling a carrot every week.
Potential longer term players need to be played to confirm if they are still going to be at club next season.
If he can include academy players which are available it could be a money saving exercise.
Ferguson is not fully match fit and is being eased in. cut it out with “broken promise” rubbosh. he’s getting game time which he didn’t get at all at Brighton
Hopefully we step back and don’t get involved with another so called good young English player who looks good in a bang average french league.
If he was up to it he wouldn’t have walked away a few years ago..
We have youngsters just as good that work within the clubs means, let him move on and disappear somewhere else.
Agree with you Dave.
Does the brain trust at West Ham not believe in Orford, Potts, Earthy etc.?
A low baller from Sullivan no doubt.
He never disappoints. He’s THAT person that takes his Waitrose bags when shopping at Lidl.
Interesting social commentary on shoppers.
What do you think THAT person is all about about?
No idea, however I do enjoy the occasional trip to Waitrose with my Lidl bags in tow.
