West Ham need winning and ambitious mentality

|

Manuel Pellegrini has changed his mantra of calling for a big team mentality and instead called for a winning mentality as the Hammers face Sheffield United this weekend.

The manager told reporters at Rush Green on Thursday lunchtime “We must continue having a winning and ambitious mentality. Two or three balls can decide a game and two or three games can change your season. We must be focused, go game by game and not think that because we played well at the beginning [of the season] that we will beat our next rival. We have to be careful, if you don’t work at 100 per cent as a team, it is difficult to win in the Premier League”

The manager has had to ditch the big team mentality as big teams don’t get turned over by Everton, Crystal Palace or Oxford United. Big teams also tend to beat teams like Aston Villa, Brighton and Bournemouth.

Let’s be honest, anyone can beat Manchester United these days, you don’t need to be a big team. Equally wins over Watford and Norwich were hardly big wins.

He’s boring now – starting to sound like Avram Grant with his ” I trust my players” quote, which ne blurted out every time we lost 4-0 !

It’s a good sign he has identified the big team mentality isn’t enough and has changed gears.
