The West Ham United board have got themselves into a massive tangled mess. Backing the manager with almost £50 million worth of new strikers was clearly designed to be a huge statement showing support for David Sullivan’s managerial ‘pick’.

Trouble is, Nuno was supposed to have won his games against both – or either- of the bottom-teams that West Ham have played in the last week. Instead of which, Nuno clearly missed the memo and the Hammers lost them both.

So now according to sportwitness.co.uk who:

..”report the manager is in a ‘very precarious’ position. The pressure on the 51-year-old increased after his side’s latest defeat. Therefore, there will be discussions in the ‘coming hours’ over his future at West Ham.”

So – no big shock, the club have a crisis meeting where Espirito Santo’s future will be discussed.

What, choice, realistically, do Sullivan and Co have at this stage of the window with the club in such a perilous position?

Boot Nuno out – deservedly – and start from scratch again with another free manager who will be picking up a squad which is total mishmash created by four previous managers, one chairman and one technical director; everyone has had a meddle. And it shows.

Ot keep the faith in a Nuno miracle which is about as likely as a London Stadium clean sheet right now. But might just be the ‘least worst’ option with a glimmer of team spirit starting to flicker from time to time. Probably – too little too late. But it might just be better to stick with the devil you know.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Perhaps the strikers have been bought for the championship, because they do look like that level.
    £50m is crazy though,speaks volumes.
    Nuno won’t save us

  • Nicko says:

Okay our managers have not been the best but the players have to take a big chunk of the blame. Last few games we have made shocking defensive errors by Areola and Scarles that cost us points. I’d rather have Nuno than the other 3. Nite that the Wolves and Forrest fans speak very highly of Nuno and say that he will turn it around for us.

  • Rob says:

The board have made their choices already in buying the players chosen by Nuno. Nothing more to be said. If you get rid of Nuno you have players that may not suit the new manager, and you have the extra cost of Nuno’s severance pay and money for a new manager which we don’t have. So for me Sulivan made his last roll of the dice a while ago when Nuno was brought on board. Hope Sulivan got it right, if not it’s Birmingham City all over again. 🤨

  • Ray says:

2 days ago, I was reading on here how “Nuno has lost the dressing room”, so how do we now put any faith in him to change anything if he does not have the support of the players? He has to go, and the club needs to change its selection process.

  • Phil Baker says:

The way football clubs are successfully run has evolved enormously over the years and Westham haven’t evolved under the ownership of Sullivan . So four managers have failed completely in two years ( The last 6 months of Moyes , Lopetegui , Potter and NES ) , the common denominator is Sullivan . Insufficient quality staff ( poor recruitment ) and coaches to instill the nuanced details of how to handle all on field situations appears to be the problem . Westham had plenty of heart against Forest but no guile . No amount of new players will fix this . New ownership with modern successful strategies are the only solution .

  • M B says:

Get rid now and appoint a manger with experience of getting teams out of the Championship. BFS to refurn?

  • Dartmoor Mushroom says:

We are not coming back from this in a hurry, what a state this club is in , no real home ground, don’t own the training ground , people running the club who only have their own financial interests at heart, second rate defensive manager, club captain who wouldn’t say boo to a goose, as Terry Thomas would say ” what an absolute shower ” could imagine most of these players will be off when we go down, getting relegated will much easier than getting back up, where is that promise of ” a new level ” now? Let’s get ready to Tumble. 60 years supporting to come to this, their not even entertaining anymore 🙏🏻😩

  • Rothers says:

Not sure that we have any alternative, but to get rid of him. He is not getting any wins and we’re running out of time. Assuming we get relegated we will still need a manager so let’s plan for that eventuality and get that manager in now. Carrick knows the club, would have the fans’ support, did well at Middlesboro, I’m guessing would be a good man manager too, and he’s currently not employed. So I say, let’s plan for the Championship and, who knows, Carrick may actually keep us up when clearly Nuno won’t.

  • Colin Delicate says:

If we don’t get at least one quality centre half in, preferably two, it won’t matter who’s in charge.

  • On me head Trev says:

The owners ripped the soul out of Westham moving from the Bolyn. Moyse did OK winning the equviliant of thecinter toto cup while ignoring the FA cup and the League cup whilst ripping out the heart of Westham by ignoring the youngsters who are now about two years behind where the should be. Been going downhill with the last five managers. Put this one on garden leave immediately as he has lost the players. I will see it doesn’t seem to be a coincidence that Paquata winning his case seems to have made the football association give instructions that westham get no decisions or they are given against them even they are 50/50.

    • Whippethammer says:

Not into conspiracy theories, but your latter point has nagged away at me this season, I must confess!

  • al says:

If that’s the choice of 2 strikers from nu nu,then we are in serious trouble there are better strikers in the championship don’t think they headed the ball. As for nu nu cuddling gibbs white at the end please there’s a time and a place . Sack him now

  • Vince N says:

Will Brady turn up for the discussions? Did she turn up for the game last night?

  • Keith says:

Big Sam knows how to save a club who has at least a chance. Hate his brand of football, but it draws and wins matches and he got Bolton to Europe in the past. He could save us. Nuno no hope.

  • Gazza says:

Get Big Sam back in with Harry Redknapp, they couldn’t possibly do any worse and they fit Sullivan’s criteria of being free and available

  • Ray Stewart’s Right Peg says:

We need some stability, this hiring and firing managers hasn’t worked. I’d give him time after the window closes to see how he gets on with players he wants rather than inherited.

And if we accept we are down and looking at life in the Championship, we shouldn’t forget Nuno got Wolves promoted in 2018 – so he knows what it takes.

  • Jb says:

Yep…Put it this way….Give him his players 16 games …It’s not about results now..It’s about a platform for the future..His ideas ..His players….If he doesn’t get a cohesive hard working team by May then he walks….They backed him…We have backed him …So no questions asked… Good bye…
Personally I think we will come together..Just miss out on staying up…But storm the championship next season.

  • Hammertime says:

Is there a manager that is better than nuno who is currently available and would be willing to come to us at the position we’re currently in?

We should have made the right appointment after Moyes.

    • Hammeroo says:

You mean instead of Loopy Loppy, Potty Potter and Nono Nuno? If Silly Sully sacks Nuno then maybe Forest will sack Dyche and ask Nuno to return to them where he is still popular with their fans. Then, hello Sully, Dyche is available on a free to immediately take over at West Ham. Everyone’s a winner! Except I won’t be a happy Hammeroo. We, or rather Sully, never learn.

    • Bennyboy baker says:

The lost to wolves and nottingham forest looks to have sealed our fate with championship football next season barring a unbelivable turn around which i dont belive we will have while nuno is incharge he mzafe some very odd team selections his park the bus style has cost us and not just once all in all hes not up to the job that may be partly Due to sullivan and brady but nuno needs to up his game which i cant see hapening a new owner and a quality manager if anything is to change if we do go down it may well be a very very long road back

  • Geoffrey risley says:

Stick with devil you know.do you really believe nuno is the man to lead us tf the the promised land after being relegated.its al tol very nice waiting for the silver lining on the horizon a marvellous turn in fortune.soon we will have run out of games which means win every game between now and the end of the season.these are the games that had to be won
Unless you think playing livrrpool etc is easier
We have been caught out by hoping for 3 worst teams than us.see you in Wrexham

  • D.f.butcher says:

I do not understand why he dismantled our midfield of Potts ,mangassa and fernandes which was showing growing potential, I never wanted Nuno so good riddance to him, the performances didn’t match his hype, just like potter.

  • Mick bering says:

It’s not the manager its Sullivan responsible for this mess Total incompetence from the board been going down hill for 2 years now

  • Doctor Doom says:

Good to see the board consistently showing common sense throughout all the years they’ve owned us then.

  • Martin C says:

We didn’t get rid of Moyes early enough, his last year is where the rot set in and now we are riddled with it. Changing the manager again will make no difference. We need 9 wins at least out of 17 that’s 5 more than Moyes won in his last 6 months.

  • John Ayris says:

They will not pay compo for a new manager because it shows up as an immediate expense. But freebies are freebies for a reason and is it not obvious now that the cost of them comes further along the line when they need to be sacked…

Having said that Amorim was not a freebie and he has been sacked, maybe not for abject failure though as Man U are in 6th.

I think we’re likely done now whatever we do, it takes a massive turnaround to save us that there is no sign of.

    • D says:

Not sure how true it is John but I heard no compensation is due if he is sacked before the end of the first season. D
