West Ham “Not Taking No For an Answer” as Top Striker Target Emerges

West Ham are pushing ahead with plans to strengthen their striking options in January, despite receiving an early knockback for one of their top targets.

As reported by Claret & Hugh last week, the Hammers made an enquiry for Union Saint-Gilloise striker Promise David, the Canadian international who has been attracting interest across Europe.

C&H spoke to a representative of the player who confirmed West Ham’s approach but estimated the chances of completing a deal at only 1%.

Union SG have made it clear they will not sanction a loan move, and David himself is understandably reluctant to swap Champions League football for the stress of a Premier League relegation fight.

West Ham Still Haven’t Given Up

However, C&H were told again this morning: “A lot of clubs want him but West Ham are still interested.”

Unlikely? Yes. But it appears the Hammers are refusing to take no for an answer. And unless another club comes in with hard cash in January, West Ham may yet test Union SG’s resolve with a formal bid.

The odds remain slim — but it would appear that amongst all of the transfer talk, there is genuine interest in this player.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Wasting time again on a lost cause, to make it look like we’re serious about signing a proven striker while on the other hand under selling Paqueta for £10 million

Sullivan is without doubt the worst and most embarrassing negotiator in football management, We Tried FC is finished

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

He is still really raw as a forward, has the physicality but seems like all the indications are to move on. The links to Brighton the unwillingness to leave a champions league club, our league position.

Put a realistic bid in and if no interest shift targets.

  • Sue says:

I hope we do no waste the whole transfer window chasing a player who does it want to come to us
Let’s keep options open and be realistic

  • pat says:

Make us look like we are serious here and put in the usual lowball bid when everyones eyes are looking at the Salah saga…That will be the order from on high…..like many here we all no we need reinforcements and at the start of the window but as usual do not expect us to be first out of the blocks for anyone but we will make sure our name is linked with whoever the player maybe just so it looks like we are “busy” and the reality is loan deals for out of form injury prone player who cannot get a kick at there current club.

  • Jeeps says:

Wake up and smell the coffee even when they are told NO still persist on wasting time.
Move on to somebody who is definitely available.
You can just hear it ‘We tried’.

  • Bournehammer says:

Hmm, call me a cynic but spending all window chasing after a player who doesn’t want to come to us, has multiple clubs interested in him, is playing in the champions league and owned by a club who wouldn’t countenance a loan move, only to act surprised when the player doesn’t arrive….seems a tad familiar.
Chuck in a, “we really tried “, add a cheeky low ball offer and you’ve got West Ham transfer window bingo

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise are in the elmination bracket in the CL – but only on goal difference only. So come January there may be no CL football. They are top of the Belgian Pro league though.

Was interested to read that RUSG are owned by Tony Bloom of BHA fame. He funded their resurgence, so maybe would like to see his guy move to the south coast instead.
