West Ham announced last week that centre-back Luizao had joined Polish team Pogon Szczecin on loan for the remainder of the season. Sport Strategy and Investments recently acquired the club, appointing Italian lawyer Nilo Effori as the club president.

The company, listed in the UK, has begun bringing several Brazilian players to the club, with Renyer, who was without a club, also joining. Luizao’s contract with West Ham runs until 30th June 2026, having joined the London club from São Paulo in January 2023.

What is even more remarkable is that he was only assigned a squad number a few weeks before the loan deal was agreed, having not been part of the squad or anywhere near a first-team place.

Reportedly earning between £10,000 and £20,000 a week at West Ham, Pogon Szczecin are only able to partially fund his wages. Bizarrely, the Hammers previously insisted on a loan transfer for Luizao only if his wages were paid in full by the receiving club, which is why moves to Brazilian clubs Athletico MG, SC Internacional, Corinthians, and Vasco all fell through.

Claret & Hugh approached a senior source who confirmed: “It’s a straight loan, sadly only paying a fraction of his wages, but it’s a player who is probably not good enough for us that we need in the shop window. We’ll try and move him permanently in the summer.”

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

You could have fooled me that the “senior source” wants to sell Luizao in the summer if he makes comments like that which when published can only be to the detriment of the player and any future sale value surely.

I completely agree. Why on earth does C&H feel it was appropriate to contact their so called “senior source”, and then print a comment like that when Graham has made it perfectly clear that he is trying to stop leaks from within the club? All this does is reduce the player’s value even further at the end of the season, and makes us look completely unprofessional.

When I’ve seen Luizao he looks strong but nowhere near the required quality, whatever the loan club is picking up of the wages is a saving.

32 years since sadly the great Bobby Moore passed away. Nothing on the club website but hardly surprising with Karen Brady blowing up alan sugars arse at the moment with the apprentice. I would have expected something on here though guys……….
