More information has come to light following our post yesterday on the details of several squad members who may be on their way out of London Stadium this summer.
Konstantinos Mavropanos is likely to be on the ‘For Sale’ list, as the Greek international has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter since joining West Ham United from VfB Stuttgart last year. Even though he was a Tim Steidten recruit (under Moyes) it seems he’s falling to the bottom of the pecking order and is ripe for an upgrade.
Sean Whetstone has stated via his West Ham Football X account that The Hammers are reportedly open to selling him this summer, as the club looks to streamline its squad and generate transfer funds.
With the arrival of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, competition for places in the centre of defence has intensified and ‘Mav’s’ future could well lie away from London Stadium.
The club is believed to be seeking around £13.6 million for Mavropanos, who still has four years remaining on his contract. While the defender has shown glimpses of potential, his inconsistent performances and the emergence of other options have made him on the ‘possibly surplus to requirements’ list.
As West Ham continue to reshape their squad under the guidance of manager Julen Lopetegui, the sale of Mavropanos could provide the club with additional funds to invest or offset under PSR, and perhaps just as importantly free up a centre-back ‘slot’ for any further incoming player.
Another moyes failure
Or possibly Steidten’s.
I just hope we are not about to have a rerun of the Pellegrini spending spree.
We could easily do without Mav. Gives the ball away with bad passes and is error prone under pressure. JWP and Soucek declining and no dominance. Ings and Antonio unfortunately in same boat along with Cresswell. Need a huge clearance…its a brutal young man’s game.
Well done Sully, JLo and above all Tim.
Tough integrating next…..
Makes sense as he does not fit into the way Jlo wants to play and the player does tend to have lapses in concentration that has let us suffer on more than one occasion…..a sensible price as well should see a few clubs interested in him
His inconsistency was in the Moyes era. Surely he could be given another chance with our new boss.
it should be no surprise that a player signed under moyes for moyes isn’t a good fit for lopetegui, especially when that player is a central defender, the roles under each manager couldn’t be more different
mavros has had an absolute shocker this preseason, has done himself no favours and failed to show his quality, lopetegui has made the decision and so be it
unfortunate because i do think mavros has the ability but for whatever reason has consistently failed to show it, personally i think the issue is mental and temporary, there is a lot of hesitation in his game at the moment
that being said i don’t think mavros is the guy to push out, surely there are worse matches in other positions – perhaps we already have a buyer for mavros
