West Ham United‘s hopes of signing young striker Samu Omorodion have been dashed after Chelsea barged into the transfer race with a hefty bid.
New West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui had identified his fellow Spaniard, Omorodion, as a crucial element in his rebuild strategy. The towering striker, while raw, possesses immense potential that appealed to the Hammers. Negotiations with Atletico Madrid were progressing well, with defender Nayef Aguerd potentially offered as a sweetener in the deal.
However, West Ham’s pursuit was abruptly halted by Chelsea’s intervention. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Blues submitted a hefty £35 million bid for Omorodion, making him their primary transfer target. Atletico, sensing an opportunity to capitalise, have reportedly doubled their asking price in response.
This inflated price tag, coupled with Chelsea’s financial clout, has made it nearly impossible for West Ham to compete. While Omorodion joining West Ham could have provided him with a nurturing environment alongside young players, the pressure of a massive price tag and potential lack of playing time at Chelsea could hinder his development.
With Omorodion seemingly out of reach, West Ham must regroup and identify alternative attacking options. Lopetegui and his team will need to be creative in the transfer market to find a striker that fits their vision and budget.
I always look at minutes played rather than appearances .. Of his 35 appearances, 13 were as sub .. If his minutes played is divided by 100, he has 10 goal involvement in the equivalent of 20 games .. That’s pretty good for a youngster ..
I think we should go for a team of pundits we would win every game ?
I have read somewhere that the Player has only scored nine goals in 35 games last season. Not exactly reason to get to excited.
Just watching MOTD with pundits Thomas Frank and fat frank are they related?
Sounds like Athletico trying to wring some more money out of us, IMO. Chelsea need to sell before they can buy, by most reports. Even if they do snatch him up, we’ll have the last laugh when they’re docked points for egregiously breaking FFP (hopefully they just relegate Chelsea and they’re never heard of again!).
Jealous are we?
Of?
In a reply to the Juventus story, I posted that we ran the risk of losing out (by biding our time)on players to other clubs who outbid us. How quickly, in this case, this has apparently happened ! It doesn’t fill me with optimism regarding the actual signing of our targeted players !
