Claret and Hugh’s Associate editor Sean Whetstone also gives his marks out today.
The team can’t be embarrassed with that result which kept our goal difference intact and still in fourth place.
Fabianski: How he saw the ball in that snow at times is beyond me but made some important saves and can’t be blamed for either City goal 8 and my man of the match.
Johnson: Good performance despite the opposition and a massive goal-line clearance to keep us in the game. 8
Dawson: Shows his experience at the back but he is not a direct like for like replacement for Ogbonna 6
Zouma: Another confident performance from the ex Chelsea man 7
Cresswell: Not one of his best games but worrying he suffered an injury to his backsliding into the goal post 6
Rice: Heartfelt performance by the young skipper but it was not to be his day despite a lot of running 7.5
Soucek: Lacking confidence and form and largely anonymous, how he gets picked automatically is beyond me 5
Masuaku: Back on the left but still not a defender but tried hard today and can’t fault his effort. 6
Fornals: Played out of position on the right and didn’t really come off for him 6
Antonio: Quiet game and isolated up front, lost the ball a few times while caught in possession 6
Benrahma: Benny blows hot and cold but today it was not to be one of his good performances 6
Lanzini: Came on a sub and scored a superb goal to earn a good rating 7
Coufal: Came on as left-back in an unusual position but didn’t do anything wrong 6
Bowen: Came on late with 15 minutes to go but couldn’t make a massive difference 6
Not sure why Johnson gets an eight. Yes a goal line clearance, but crossing and forward play not up to his recent standard. No better (or worse) than Soucek. I think Lanzini has earned a start against Brighton ahead of Benrama.
U must have watched a different game to me Johnson was out of position regularly and to question soucek is unbelievable
Tenner please for every time the ‘you must have watched a different game’ line is trotted out lol
Benrahma is honestly disappointing – he kept losing possession and running into blind alleys. Back to his unproductive old self of last season. In truth, he’s never been reliable this season; one occasional good game followed by several mediocre ones is the best you can get out of him.
Do folks still think he’s the younger and better replacement for Lingard?
